Hey guy's I'm planning on flying down to Texas next Monday, I was thinking about taking my pistol with me since Texas honors our CPL. I was just curious if any of you have checked a firearm before and if you had any issues? I went over the Alaska Airlines Transporting a Firearm page and it looks to be pretty straight forward. So I was just curious if you guys have done it before, and had any issues?

Two suggestions. Print out and take with you a copy of the Alaska policy on firearms, and the TSA regs. The agents are sometimes clueless and need a reminder.

Second, make sure the magazine is not in the gun, or not loaded. I know it sounds stupid, but I keep hearing news stories about people bringing loaded guns to the check in counter. And you can be pretty much assured that the agent will want to pick up the gun and muzzle you. If the slide is locked back, they shouldn't need to touch it at all.

Have flown back and forth with firearms quite a bit. No big deal, just make sure it's in a locked case and empty. I've never had any problem with ticketing agents, and have rarely had to show clear.

Enjoy that Texas heat.

I made it down there without any issue, although I had a bit of an issue on the return trip. After checking in at the counter I had to take my bag over to the TSA inspection station just so they could check to make sure that the gun was stored properly and what not. Well the TSA guy broke my gun case right in front of me and in doing so he said now it cannot go in my checked luggage. I told the little porky bastard that it's your fault for breaking the damn thing so it's not really my responsibility to find a new way of transporting it. Anyways he said it is my responsibility to find an alternate method of transporting it. I will say I lost my cool and asked the guy if he's a ******* idiot, at which point he said "Sir do not call me names" at that point I was just pissed and I told him to go **** himself.

Anyways he got on the radio and requested police backup for an irate passenger. Sooo 6 cops ended up coming over and the douche tells them what happened they come over and talk with me and I explain that the guy is simply an idiot. So the cops sided with me (winning) an told the TSA guy that he has to make it work since he's the one that fucked it up to begin with. While the TSA supervisor was trying to figure it out, I was just kicking back and talking with the cops about guns, shooting etc. They were actually really cool, one of them whispered to me that the TSA Supervisor is a ******* idiot which gave me a good laugh. So after everything was said and done my flight was leaving in 15 minutes so I had to rush through security but I made it so all was good in the end.

Less than 10 minutes before all of this happened the SAME TSA supervisor called 3 cops over so that they could verify that these completely fake looking airsoft guns weren't "real" despite being completely plastic with bright orange tips and saying made in China. "Well they do make real AR's in China so you can't be too sure."
