I got the itch to get a wheel gun, for camping, hiking and general amusement at the range. Any insight from you wheel gun aficionados would be appreciated.

Ruger Gp100 and S&W 686 plus are the front runners, I'm really leaning toward the S&W with a 6" barrel.

If you have something collecting dust that you want to sell, I would consider it.

if you can find a cheap dan wesson 15-2 model go for it.
barrels are interchangeable, totally love mine.

takes all the reloads I can throw at it....is a fun gun to shoot for sure.

I picked up a Ruger Security Six at the last gun buyback. I have been really happy with it.

They have not been made since the late 80s though, so you would have to find a used one, and there are not a ton of holsters out there. I have been told they fit in K-frame holster though.

What do you think a fair price for one in good condition with a 10" and 6" in blue is worth?

I have a 4" GP100, and you would not regret having the same gun if you're looking for a .357 and are man-sized.

The bold part made me laugh. But you really can't go wrong with a Ruger revolver.

I'm 6'4". I'm man sized.

I don't fit in bus or airplane seats.

When I get in your car, I push the seat all the way to the back.

I am man sized.

Most pistols do not have large enough grips for man-sized hands. They are either too short, or the finger indents are too close together.

Most...anything...are not large enough for man-sized dudes.

The grips that came on my GP100 is the closest thing I've found to fitting my hand properly.

For me, I have found the 6" barrels to be a bit to long to sit in a vehicle with, without the holster pushing on the seat and forcing the holster up and into my side.

If I was in the market for another 357Magnum, I would go with a 4" barrel. The 4" barrel will get the job done for hunting use or concealed carry as well.

The Gp100 and S&W 686 are both very fine revolvers.

Very nice. Is that the 6" barrel, or 8"?

That could be usefull for the discussion in the other thread about long distance shooting.

I have an 8" Ruger Redhawk with a 2x Leopold on top. It's a .44 mag though but I love it. That Smith looks nice as well.

It would be conjecture at this point. :(

Let us know how it works out.

I've always like 357 and think it's a solid round. And though 4 inch is handier, I personally think if you're going through the effort of carrying a wheel gun in 357, might as well go with the 6 to wring the most benefit out of it.

For my purposes I went with a 357Sig Glock project (waiting on the parts to finish it). But the single action trigger pull of the S&W will give you better accuracy, all things being equal.

Well since you've got a picture of Rick Grimes as your avatar, I vote Colt Python.

OTOH, I still regret selling my 4" 686.
