Deciding where to buy a first gun

Hi everyone, this is my first post here as I'm brand new. I've looked into handgun options for practicing with/home defense/potentially CC down the road. I like the 4th or maybe even 3rd gen G19, but don't know the best way to go about getting one. The glock website lists retailers, which include local fred meyers and sportsman warehouse type places, which I am sure would only sell 4th gen products.

I live near Portland, so that would be most convenient for me to buy one (or near). What are the pros and cons or just simply going to a fred meyer or similar, vs. a dedicated gun shop, vs buying used on a forum (like this one)? I am a complete novice in all of these matters, so all advice is much appreciated!

Thanks

Regular gun stores and places like Sportsman's Warehouse, Fisherman's Supply, etc., will usually have people who can explain things to you if you have questions, places like Fred Meyers (they don't sell guns), Bi-mart, or WalMart most likely won't. If you know what you want and what to look for, the best deals will be at pawn shops or online.

Welcome. Let us know what you end up going with. And good on you for getting one and practicing with it before CC'ing it everywhere.

??? Freddies does indeed sell guns. Not at every store---but I have

bought several at Newberg.

Sorry, never seen any in the PDX metro area. I've purchased several from Big5, but my favorite are estate sales and auctions.
