I like to have my pistol in full view with the slide locked back to show it's not loaded to any LEO who may pull me over. Is that considered brandishing? I just want clarification.

I'm trying to understand what good thing can come of this? Why not get your cpl and keep your loaded firearm somewhere it doesn't need to become an issue.

Given LEO's nervousness, I thought it'd be a courtesy to voluntarily show that the weapon's not loaded. I understand the point you're making as well. More than anything else, I like to have all bases covered in order to err on the side of caution. In short, I like being informed of all my legal options.

There are a lot of LEO's that make suggestions about how to inform them as a courtesy that you are carrying. Having a gun in plain view with the breach open is not one of the suggestions that I have heard will put them at ease. How do they know you aren't going to grab it, drop the slid lock and drill them?

If you want to make status known..

Hand your CWP/CPL (whatever they call it in your state) over with your ID.

If he asks tell him where it's at (on my person / locked in the glove compartment etc)

Also volunteer whether its loaded or not (if its loaded and you don't have a CPL your screwed)

If he asks for it.. or to get it, move slowly and be compliant.

*** I would under no circumstances pull a gun out, unload it, and leave it on the seat while being stopped by an officer.. it looks like your loading it from behind.

Terrible idea.

You need to provide a little more details. Do you carry normally and are just getting it out when pulled over, or are you saying leave it like that every time you get in the car? Either way, I think you are going down the wrong path. Loaded and secured, and if they want to do something else with it once they pull you over, they can tell you what.

Concealed is CONCEALED, why would you volunteer any information in the first place?
Are you just nervous or a nOOb to guns?
Just curious....

According to the CPL you have to notify the cop that you are carrying or not.
If the firearm is in the glove box, the ammo Has to be locked in the trunk.

Open carry is outside in the open. Brandishing is having it your hand and waving/pointing it at humans.

Go see Troy at the Grand mound gun shop, he knows all the laws better than me.
