Hello all,

I have moved from Missouri to Washington and I'm trying to determine if there is anything I need to do or be made aware of. My father buys and sells guns at shows in the mid-west and he gifted me with a hand gun before I went off to college. This gun is still in my possession. Do I need to register or have proof of ownership in Washington? If so, how I would go about doing that? I also want to be able to teach my husband how to use it so would there need to be any paperwork for him?

Thank you!

When I moved here, I called the local Sheriff. I was told to document the Make, model and serial number and keep it someplace safe and not with the pistol. This was in 1992 and I had inherited the gun from my father. I don't know how much has changed so you might want to check with local LEO. You can always call to check without identifying yourself. FYI Washington considers a loaded gun in a vehicle to be concealed carry even if it is openly on your hip. Make sure you apply for a WA CPL at your local LEO to make carrying less difficult. :)

We have no registration here. No proof of ownership required, either. The bill of sale or documentation is strictly for your own records.
