Gun owner moving from Missouri to Washington

Hello all,

I have moved from Missouri to Washington and I'm trying to determine if there is anything I need to do or be made aware of. My father buys and sells guns at shows in the mid-west and he gifted me with a hand gun before I went off to college. This gun is still in my possession. Do I need to register or have proof of ownership in Washington? If so, how I would go about doing that? I also want to be able to teach my husband how to use it so would there need to be any paperwork for him?

When I moved here, I called the local Sheriff. I was told to document the Make, model and serial number and keep it someplace safe and not with the pistol. This was in 1992 and I had inherited the gun from my father. I don't know how much has changed so you might want to check with local LEO. You can always call to check without identifying yourself. FYI Washington considers a loaded gun in a vehicle to be concealed carry even if it is openly on your hip. Make sure you apply for a WA CPL at your local LEO to make carrying less difficult.

We have no registration here. No proof of ownership required, either. The bill of sale or documentation is strictly for your own records.
