Currently I use a savage 110 in the 7mm rem mag version, really want to go back to the 308, cheaper to shoot, still has power to hunt the game in washington area, also have military back ground on this rifle, but have been seen alot of other choices like the savage 01 in the 300 win mag, not so cheap to shoot but damn it looks nice, so with the two factors, cheap to shoot, and damn factor, what do you think is good? staying under 1200 bucks?. pros and cons

I would go with either an older Remington 700 PSS or newer model SPS Tactical in .308. These are both excellent precision platforms that won't break the bank and easily modified (at your leasure), and combined with the right optics can be fine tuned very easily into a sub .5 MOA shooter.

I have a remington model 660 it was probably made between 1968 and 1971. It was the precursor to the 700's It is in .308, and it is a badass little bush gun. It shoots very well.. and I dont mind dragging it around in the pissing rain.. and mud/dirt.. etc etc. The 700 is a great platform, and .308 winchester is a badass round to shoot off of it. You can start a 700 fairly inexpensively then get ridiculous.. so it's a fun one to own over time. |
