WTB: Semi-Automatic Rifle

Something preferably tactical-ish that is reliable, fun to shoot, and will also be useful in home defense. I know this is an incredibly broad net I'm casting here but that's because these have become awfully difficult to find. I don't want to spend over 500 bucks which I know also hampers my search. Thanks for looking.
