I know this is a bit of a stretch, but a friend of mine would like to build an AR for about $600 (doesn't need to be a build, but I'm assuming this is cheaper). Any advice or pointing in the right direction would be much appreciated.

I'm looking at the delton rifle kit, but..does anyone know if you can just buy picatinny rail and mount them yourself? cause i want rail on my handguard but i dont wanna buy a handguard that has them on them already.

short answer yes.. you can buy a rail and install it on a fairly standard upper. There are a few high end uppers with rail systems built in.. but if your talking about a 16 - 20 inch upper with a gasblock, or a fixed front site there are plenty of options. http://www.del-ton.com/AR_15_Hanguar..._Rail_s/76.htm Just make sure you get the right size.. there are many configurations for the upper barrel length and front site placement. If your getting a delton kit, they have a few rails as options with most of the kits? Just order it with your upper. |

It is the only part that gets registered at the time of purchase. By stripped, I mean it is just the bare receiver with no parts installed. EVERY other part can be purchased without any documentation what so ever. These kits do not include this part. This is a lower receiver. Last edited by FatFugg; 02-02-2011 at 05:13 PM. |

You can buy (From Del-Ton) an upper with rail on it. That way you can mount optics on it and, a back-up rear iorn site. The railed fore guard can be had Cheap from Mag-Pul, Tapco, or DPMS. I'm sure there are others. I think the only part you will need an FFL for is the stamped (ID numbered) lower reciever. |

I use a Del-Ton upper and it works great. My origional upper had the A2 style carry handle cast into it. With the rail on the new upper I can mount any style optics I want.
