Mossberg model 51m 22 Rifle jamming

I have a older Mossberg model 51m 22 rifle that after a few rounds it will jam.

The gun has been cleaned and is in good shape overall.

I was thinking it could be the main spring part 50-31from the Parts list. Any other ideas?

The barrel has these markings
O.F MOSSBERG & SONS INC
NEW HAVEN CONN USA
51M@ 22 LR ONLY PAT PEND

Does anyone know where I can get parts for this gun?

Thnx

Marty

have you tried different types of ammo?

That one has the tube magazine that comes through the buttstock right?

No I have not. I been using Winchester 22 Long Rifle 36 Grain 1280 FPS which are high speed.

The instruction manual states the following:
Use nothing but .22 LONG RIFLE High Speed or Regular cartridges, either dry or lubricated. DO NOT attempt to use shorts or longs.

I will go out and buy a different brand and give it a go.

Thnx

I have several .22's Lever, semi-auto etc.. Some of the tend to take a crap with one brand or another.

Sometimes it's the shape of the bullet, or the coating..

So ya, try a few brands. If the problem is consistant, then it's time to get the gun checked out.

Agreed. It's funny how some guns just prefer certain ammo..

Yup. Not sure about that rifle, but the semi-auto 22LR handguns can be pretty finicky. Basically, if you're using a bulk pack (don't care about brand), they don't seem to like them. But a more premium line tends to work better...

I have the same rifle. Unique, accurate and fun to shoot. With a full mag of 15, 17?, forgot how many, I may have two failure to feeds. Possibly smoothing and polishing the lips on the tubular mag. Also, there isn't a feed ramp. I've been thinking about smoothing that lip that the round slides over as it goes into the chamber. Don't take to much off. I've only shot Federals through mine. Not sure if I can blame them. Good Luck

I have the same rifle and Yes try different ammo Mine does not like Remington
Golden Rounds 36gr after about 10 rounds it does not like to feed CCI seems to be the best for this rifle.

I may be stating the obvious but don't forget to lube it. The guys here are right on the money different ammo will play a LARGE roll in how it functions.
