Hello, from Seattle. I moved up here from California about 4 months ago. I'm new to guns in general and don't even own one, yet. I've never fired anything beyond bb and paintball guns. I'll be honest and say that guns have always kind of scared me but since childhood I've always been fascinated by them. Now I want to get over it and start shooting. I figured this would be a good place to get tips and ask questions. I plan on buying an AK-47 underfolder. I know, probably not the best gun to start off with, but I've always liked the way they look and they seem like they'd be fun to shoot. My only mode of transportation is a motorcycle (Harley Davidson Crossbones, if anybody is curious) so I'm wondering how I'd transport a rifle to and from the range. I was thinking I could just stuff everything in a bag/backpack, unloaded, and strap it to the back seat. Would that be ok? And I'm a little confused about the whole concealed weapon issue. If you're carrying a gun in a bag from your vehicle to the gun range is that considered carrying a concealed weapon? Sorry if my questions are stupid. I just don't want to end up doing something that'll piss somebody off or get myself in trouble. I'm pretty sure I have basic gun safety down (ie. always treat a weapon as if it's loaded, point in safest direction, finger off the trigger until your aiming at your target, etc). So I'd appreciate any tips/suggestions that you people could give to a newb like me. thanks!

in washington, only pistols are concealed, so your long gun you don't need to worry about concealment issues.

do not transport a loaded long gun in/on a vehicle, ever, in the state of washington.

if you like the ak-47, it's a fine "starter" gun. it's not like other things, you can start wherever you want.

if you've never fired a firearm...take someone with you your first time, preferably someone familiar with the ak's.

honestly though, here's your best source of info:
Chapter 9.41 RCW: Firearms and dangerous weapons
it's fairly easy to understand, and if you have any further questions, don't hesitate to ask

*I've covered some of what you asked about, whatever I missed let me know....I'm tired....long work days.

oh, and hi :)

I would recommend attending some training on firearm safety and operation. There are NRA certified classes here:

Wildlife Committee of Washington

Not only will you get some terriffic information on safety, shooting and gun handling, but you will get exposed to the culture, etiquette and attitude of the shooting community.

as long as you have it unloaded thats fine, however if you have a barrel of a gun sticking out a backpack people might call the cops on you, but idk what they can do about it.

they can't do ****.

I got pulled over for an uncovered rifle slung on my back. He took my name and said "you're not doing anything illegal, but maybe you should look for a case"

I wanted a 9mm so i went to the range with abox of 9mm ammo and asked if I could try someones to see if it was what I really wanted. Did the same thing when I wanted a sks, Just buy some good brand name ammo and most people will let you try their guns. Buy some 762 ammo and hit the range tell people you want an ak47 and see what happens. Us shooting guys always like to show off our toys. And offer them the used brass in return for letting you use their fine gun. Us shooting guys always like to show off our toys

How I roll...

I HAD the same problem with transporting my 'Sport Rifles'.
Then I got an idea LOOKY>>>LINK>>>http://pnwguns.com/gun-talk/1042-how-i-roll-sport-rife-transport.html

You can also use a 'Tennis Racket' bag.
Some come with external zipperd pockets for extra mag's and field supply's.
A collapsable stock AK fits like a glove.

I suggest you get enrolled in a 'Firearm Safety Class'.
Many Dealers can give you information where they are held.
You can also go to the NRA website and find a local class as well.

The chair cover you can get for $19.95 at Wal-Mart and a chair come's included, for free!

Oh, WELCOME!:hello:

DO NOT Strap a firearm to your bike. If for any reason it comes off, you have lost it.
Better to keep it on your person.

PM me if I can help you
Jim

Bought a Romanian WASR AK 6 months ago and love it. It shoots better than my AR15. Got it for 379 + shipping and ffl fee. Century arms. Cheap ammo and shoots rain or shine.

Agree with Turtell...

WASR's are a great place to start. We've got 2 and they never jam, never misfeed, regardless of what type of ammo we run through them. Also easy to strip and clean. I see many hours of fun in your future if you get one of these...
