I am a fairly new handgun owner. I bought my first gun several years ago, a Romanian Tokarev. I loved it.

I recently received a Springfield Xdm 9mm as a graduation gift from my friends. I immediately fell in love with this gun, but longed for something with a little more umph.

I am currently looking for a 1911. I am on a budget and am looking for an affordable 1911, but a quality 1911.

Any suggestions?

Save until you can buy quality the first time... and never look back.

I have been thinking a Kimber Custom II. Excited about that prospect.

My first 1911 is a Eclipse Custom II (see avatar) and it's performed flawlessly for me, as reliable as any of my Tupperware pistols, and out shoots all of them. The Custom would definitely be a good choice.

Take a look at Springfield Armory too, esp seeing as you already own an XDm. I recently picked up a Loaded MC Operator, and as much as I like my Kimber, I like the new SA better.

If you want a quality 1911 in retro form, Remington's new R1 is worth a look as well. SA also makes some reasonably priced old skool style 1911. And despite their plethora of 1911 models, Kimber still oddly does not make old skool replica?

I found one for 700 from Bud's Gun Shop. I believe this is a good deal, any opinions?

Thanks

If your hand is large enough for the grip, you would have a hard time beating a Para. They are made in the USA now. Mine was made in Canada. The grip is a little wider and the rounds are staggered in the mag. Mine holds 12+1. That's a lot of firepower with .45+P. The 14 round mags also fit the P12. It's actually very concealable, but not as much as my XD-40

Thanks everybody for your advice. I was looking at the para, they seem like good weapons.

I just have to get rid of my XDM-9 before I can get my 45 :).

Will post pics of the XDM soon.
