Holla holla!

So I guess I should have posted here first rather than the review part but hello PNW readers, I'm Daniel and am interested in purchasing a rifle/shotgun for the first time and I would love some advice from anyone. I'm not sure what I want to do be it skeet shooting, target, or hunting. I know I originally wanted a shotgun but I left that would limit me to target shooting. I wouldn't mind getting a license to hunt and I think a double barrel would be perfect because it can use it for sporting or hunting. However I don't know how cheap they can get, only how expensive they are. any thoughts, ideas, or advice are appreciated as I won't be making a purchase till the not to far off future so I'll have plenty of time to think about the suggestions given.

Also if anyone in Bellingham is offering lessons in gun safety/shooting I'm an eager learner.

When I lived in Germany, lots of hunters owned only one "gun". They usually had a shotgun/rifle combination gun. One barrel was a smooth bore and chambered for their favorite shotgun round. The other barrel was rifled and chambered for just about everything up to 30/06. Over/Under configuration, break action single shots.

If you are looking to get something cheap, these aren't. You might look for a good Remington 870 or Mossberg pump action at a Dealer. Kesselring's used to have a barrel full of Pump action shotguns that were PD trade ins for great prices. Then find a good Bolt action rifle in .270, .308, or 30/06. Should be able to get both for around $500 if you shop real good and aren't too critical over appearance. IIRC the shotguns were about $200 each and looked like they had many years of "Patrol Duty".
