Welcome to the forum, and the firearm community. Sounds like you are taking a smart approach to learning.
Get to know your gun, and get to know the laws. I would recomend getting your CPL. It's really easy and makes a lot of other things easier, but check out the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) section 9.41. You do not need a license to carry concealed while doing an outdoor type activity. In the car is a no-no until you have the permit, but here is what it says about outside stuff:
(8) Any person engaging in a lawful outdoor recreational activity such as hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, or horseback riding, only if, considering all of the attendant circumstances, including but not limited to whether the person has a valid hunting or fishing license, it is reasonable to conclude that the person is participating in lawful outdoor activities or is traveling to or from a legitimate outdoor recreation area;
So I don't know if riding an ATV fits into the vehicle or outdoor recreation category.
