Hi guys. My name is Daryl and I just recently purchased my first gun, a gen 3 Glock 19. I spend lots of time out in the woods in my Jeep and on my quad and have the occasional encounter with some of the less desirable people of the NW. I finally decided that it was time that I was armed when alone or in a small group deep in the woods.

Welcome!
Do you have your cpl yet?
No I do not have my cpl yet.

Do you like your new purchase. :thefinger:

I have not had a chance to use it yet. Just picked it up yesterday morning. I have field stripped it 15 times, cleaned it, and just have been learning the in's and outs of the gun. Im hoping that ill get a chance to go down to the range this week and get some actual shooting time with it.

Welcome to the forum, and the firearm community. Sounds like you are taking a smart approach to learning.

Get to know your gun, and get to know the laws. I would recomend getting your CPL. It's really easy and makes a lot of other things easier, but check out the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) section 9.41. You do not need a license to carry concealed while doing an outdoor type activity. In the car is a no-no until you have the permit, but here is what it says about outside stuff:

(8) Any person engaging in a lawful outdoor recreational activity such as hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, or horseback riding, only if, considering all of the attendant circumstances, including but not limited to whether the person has a valid hunting or fishing license, it is reasonable to conclude that the person is participating in lawful outdoor activities or is traveling to or from a legitimate outdoor recreation area;

So I don't know if riding an ATV fits into the vehicle or outdoor recreation category.

The ATV part is one thing that I havent been able to figure out yet. But it does look like if I get my CPL then I and carry on my ATV, open or concealed. Please feel free to correct me if Im wrong.

Quick update... I now have my CPL. I got it in early July. I have been out shooting a half dozen times and there has been improvement everytime so thats a good thing. I havent done any concealed carry around town. Not ready for that step yet. But I have been open carrying out in the woods while exploring and camping.

So far I like the Glock 19. Its a good size. Easy to carry on my side while in the Jeep yet big enough that it feels good in the hand when shooting. The 9mm ammo has been a little tricky to track down but even thats starting to come back to the shelves. All in all im very happy with my decision to exercise my second amendment rights!
