My dad recently got me a savage 111 in .300wm and i would like to get a new scope for it that is 4-12x and i have looked at the redfield 4-12 and the nikon prostaff 4-12 and i was wondering if they are worth getting or if i should save my money and get a leupold.

Unless you have a muzzle brake, the kick on that rifle will be wicked. Keep that in mind when picking your scope. I know the Leupold Mark IV's are popular scopes for the .50 BMG rifles. I have found the BSA scopes to be a great value and hold up very well even with my old .50 BMG. And I have one on my AR-30 in .300WM. Personally I would make sure you have a good warranty with what ever you buy.

Thank you for the quick reply. It does not have a muzzle brake and was a package deal so it has a cheap simmons or bushnell on it now and i was planning on just using that this hunting season and doing research and saving money to put better optics on it for next year.

BSA's higher quality scopes will be around $200. They are not a leupold or zeiss by any means, but you do get quite a bit of good scope for your money with them. They also back their product and have a lifetime warranty.
