Purchasing gun through FFL

So, I have recently received my CHL and am looking to purchase a new gun to carry. Currently, I have a CA DL but I am a resident of OR (I live, work, and pay taxes in OR.) I recently called ATF to see if I could purchase a gun in Oregon and they said I could. I even talked to another reputable source and they said that as long as I prove who I am and that I live in OR (lease, utility bill, proof of voting, etc.) that an FFL would sell me a gun. Now how come when I walk into my local gun shop and show them my CA DL they refuse to sell me a gun?

Thanks!

do you have something state created that proves your residence?

I bought a gun with my old driver's license with my old address, and my friend, who I had known literally since we were little kids, could not complete the purchase until I showed him my fishing license with my new address on it.

I can try bringing in my paperwork that came with the CHL and see if they will accept that.

Does anyone here who has there FFL in OR have experience not selling a gun to somebody with an out of state ID? What was your reasoning behind it?

If you are living in OR. why not get an OR. I.D. & not have to worry about having an out of state I.D.

That looks like it may be the only solution to obtain a gun from an FFL. After getting a response I was able to learn that it is not the FFL that is unwilling to sell it, but in fact the OSP will not process a background check for a gun for someone without an OR ID/DL. This is super dumb seeing that it is legal for ANY resident of OR to purchase a gun as per the ORS (obviously you have to meet the federal requirements). Kind of a contradiction in the law on the part of the OSP.

If you have a CHL, why even show them a driver's license? The way I understand it, a CHL waives the background check fee also.

OSP had ATF crack down on what they can except..just curious why not get an Oregon DL or just an ID if a resident. They need to have a form of government I'd showing actual current residence.
