New to the forum and look forward to enjoying this forum. I have a new friend (bought the house next to me) who moved here from France with his family. He sold everything including all his guns in France before coming here. Now he wants to buy a gun here in Oregon. What hurdles is he likely to face? ![]() |

First, I believe he's going to have to have an OR DL or ID to prove he's a state resident. In OR, only state residents can purchase firearms and the state decides if you're a resident by having the state ID or DL. Passports are meaningless, as are utility bills, property docs, etc. Beyond that, the type of alien/immigrant he his and what his visa status will decide it. You need to check the ATF's website on this, my words are meaningless and this is off the top of my head: If he's a non-immigrant alien then he should be able to purchase a hunting rifle if he has a hunting permit. But that's it. If he's a green card carrying immigrant he should be okay to purchase freely.
