So in cleaning my gun, I've been looking at the stock guide rod. I can't tell what it's made of, but it looks like thin metal with a cap welded on the end. I started researching on the internet and apparently there's enough other people who wanted something "beefier" that there's an aftermarket now. Found this website that has solid replacements, and even offers different weight springs for the various models: SPRINGFIELD XD RECOIL GUIDE ROD & SPRINGS at Brownells Here's a pic of the stock two-piece guide rod and sping: ![]() And the aftermarket one-piece unit: ![]() Anyone seen this before? Anyone have this in their gun? |

Wolf springs are awesome. I put a 18.5 lb to replace the stock one in my 1911 and it made a world of difference.

Is their a need for this? If I use a heavier duty spring can I get away with using +P loads in my XD's without risking damage to them? You balk at the price of an HK, but they will never need upgrades like this. I know it's a cheap upgrade, but their are reasons why HK's are expensive. I think XD's are +P rated. The heavier springs just help manage recoil.

As I recall in the USP manual it states that you can use any factory loaded ammo including +P & +P+ without any risk to the firearm or yourself. I really like my XD's, but I miss my H&K's! |

Yes XDs are +P rated and don't "need" any upgrades, and no they're still not as nice as HK's.

If I wanted to make the recoil on my 9mm 4" XD "better" which spring tension would I choose? Or is this modification purely for durability? I've got about 3000 rounds through my XD and the seat for the guide rod is looking quite mashed. |
