1911s depend on what you want, what your willing to spend, and what style you wanna shoot you can get anything from a no frills GI Issue for 500+ to a custom for 1000-2000$ to a full Race gun for 2000+ it all depends on you Put it another way that be like saying i want a sportbike tell me everything but im kinda partial to Suzuki and Honda. so youve narrowed it down from thousands to a few hundreds Last edited by KillermondoDude; 04-23-2010 at 06:46 PM. |

I have a Kimber Stainless TLE II. I like it. Took a while to get broken in, but now it works just fine. More accurate than I am, with a pistol at least. The night sights are a nice touch too. Some people say that Kimbers are overpriced and overrated, and that may be, but mine does everything I want it to. |

Springer or a dehorned Colt, though I own a Kimber DW. If this is going to be a serious defense gun then the guys at 10-8 know what they're talking about. 1911_Duty_Use |

i say spend the $700ish and get a decent springer. then send it to www.springerprecision.com and drop another $300-$400 and have it completely customized. basically what mine is except my base was an Argentine Sistema. it now looks like this: ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I would go for the Springfield. check out 1911forums.com would have lots of info. Also shop around several different gunshops as prices will vary. |

I have a kimber. I do think the taurus pt1911 reminds me of the early kimber custom. |

Well its very easy to spend others peoples money, so I say buy a Les Baer. Yes, it will cost you ($1500-$2500) but they are worth it.

If it was me, I'd pick up a Springer and have it turned into one of these: Heirloom Precision Note, the price shown doesn't include the pistol. |

I have a Colt, a Kimber and a Nighthawk. Love them all. Hard to beat the Colt for price and features but Springfields are always a safe bet. Nothing shoots like a 1911. The trigger design is optimal for a propper pull. Get good sights, get it smoothed out (de-horned) and it'll quickly become your favorite. Keep in mind that this is not a Glock. If you want a gun you can treat like your lawn mower, don't buy a 1911. You need to actually maintain it. |

GODDAMN chameleon, that Detonics looks good. This is somewhat over simplified, but this will make it easy to write out. There are kind of three levels of 1911's. They all shoot lead. You learn the difference by shooting them. I have a colt, and a kimber.. I'd shoot a springer as well without second thoughts. Entry Level, Lower end $350-750 Citadel, RIA, Bersa Taurus etc etc. Semi customs $600-1500 Springfield, Colt, Kimber, etc etc. Full customs $1500-5000 Les Baer, Wilson Combat, Charles Daly etc etc. The RIA, and Citadel's are just fine for entry level shooters. (you don't have to get a used one) Springfields can be had for not too many dollars all setup. My buddy has the taurus he doesn't like it. I shot it, it was ok.. felt light to me? Weird review.. but that was my impression? I only shot it once.. and it jammed a bunch. What size and creature comforts you looking for? I don't have unlimited funds for guns so I picked the Taurus. Awesome shooter right out of the box. Never had any problems, and even if I did they have a LIFETIME warranty (as long as Taurus is around!). Bought a used Taurus revolver with timing issues (got it REAL cheap!) and sent it to them for repairs. About 6 weeks later I had it back in perfect condition. I own at least 7 Taurus guns, both revolvers and autos, and have never had any issues, other than the one. Sure I would love to have a Kimber or Colt, but not for the extra price.

Great write-up sun. Pretty well puts it into perspective. I agree with everything you wrote. And thanks for the compliments on the Detonics. I'm a southpaw and wanted to make it as left side friendly as possible for my carry weapon.
