Anyone know if Taurus 1911's are worth a shit? I was just browsing GunBroker & saw some of them. The price is right, just don't know about their fit, finish & accuracy. Any info will be appreciated! Last edited by FatFugg; 01-01-2011 at 04:54 PM. |

I'm not a Taurus fan and I truly believe any 1911 made outside of the US to be almost sacrilegious but I have heard good things about that model. The one caveat is that no one who has said good things to me has been through more than 500 rounds. Don't know what the parts make-up is or how it likes defensive ammo but they appear to run well out of the box with ball.

Ya, I have owned two Taurus revolvers & their attention to detail has been just OK. I want a Kimber Raptor & I have a feeling if I were to get a Taurus I would never be happy with it because it would never measure up to the fit & finish of the Kimber. Prolly just gunna wait until I have the cash for somethin like one of these. ![]() |

I have one and like it. They are very hard to beat for the price with the features they have. I was undecided what model I wanted but a local shop had this one on sale for $450 so it is the one I got ![]() I have only put a couple hundred rounds though it. It is accurate, functioned without problems, great trigger and features. If you are the kind of person who is just an average or casual shooter the gun will out last you. From what I have read though if you are the kinda guy that shoots 10,000's of rounds a year you will be better served by a Colt or other high end custom gun. I had a Kimber and sold it, I had a Para and sold it they were both good guns, they just didnt get shot much. I still have a Kimber 1911/22 and a Colt Commander in .38 Super Auto and see nothing wrong with my Taurus. Last edited by nwcid; 01-01-2011 at 05:49 PM. |

Any problems with inserting a mag? I played with one at a local shop and trying to seat a nighthawk, mccormick or wilson mag was impossible without hitting the mag release. The provided mag slid in fine.

I carry a Kimber Desert Warrior off duty and, even though Kimber's have a rep for out of spec chambers and extractor issues, mine has been flawless. I actually enjoy shooting it more than my Nighthawk, the sights work better for me. I just bought a new Colt Rail Gun and will be sending it off to a 'smith, probably MARS, in the near future for a light massaging and some golf ball dimples on the frontstrap and mainspring housing.

I've shot the tarus, it shoots fine. In the $500 1911 range it's towards the top (for a new gun). I have a new kimber and it's got extractor issues.. and I paid a lot more than $500! When it comes to 1911's I'd have one of all of them.. spendy ones and cheap ones.. Springfields can be had loaded up w/some decent components in the 500-1000 range coming in just under the kimber range. |

lol Gixx. If the Kimber has an extractor issue either replace it or send it back to the company (or just send it to a gun smith). I've never had issue one from my Custom II. It's a great gun.

Sorry guys but I have to go with the Taurus. I've got 2 and neither have ever had a malfunction of any kind. Kimber, Springfield, Auto, and Para-great guns, but I have also run into problems with brand new ones. They may claim to be perfectly fit, but I have had extractor problems and loading problems. I guess it all really depends on how much money you want to spend. I got 2 Taurus' for the price of one Kimber, all new in the box. Another plus for Taurus is the lifetime warranty. I don't think the others have this. I've been told Taurus needs the warranty "so people will buy their crap". All I know is that other companies used to have lifetime warranties (Ruger for example) and are getting rid of the practice. If you have a good product, why are you afraid to stand behind it? Just my 2 cents. BTW, I've put over 2000 rounds through mine without one problem. Last edited by Firegal; 01-14-2011 at 11:08 AM. Reason: Add more info... |

I firmly believe in carrying a pistol I can actually fight with and enough ammo to do the job. I'm not talking about going all "die hard" on anyone but if someone starts shooting nearby, I'd hate to miss out on all that OT so I'll probably head that way. Best to have a real gun rather than some 5-shot hammerless .38 in my pocket. The smallest gun I'll carry is a G23 or one of my P225's and then, only if I absolutley have to. | |

Feels nice, looks nice, fires nice. I a far from an expert though. Honestly, I'm so far kind of a Taurus fan. They are much less expensive than comparable firearms feature wise and seem to have earned a very good reputation for reliability. I got to try out a Millenium pro and a glock (17? I think. there is a model very similar in form and feature to the MP) in .40 back to back, not knowing Taurus was a discount brand. I preferred it to the Glock. then I saw the price difference and was pretty surprised. |

I absolutely love mine. Over 500 rounds with out a single problem. I have shot my buddies Kimber and it is a great gun, but I like my Taurus better. I have numerous Taurus guns and none of them have an issue. Buy what makes you feel good.
