Suggestions?

I own a Ruger p89 and love it. My girlfriend wants to buy one but I don't want her to get one of the mini-pop guns b/c of what I've heard about them being unreliable and not that easy to handle. She's petite but a firecracker (what I love about her... ;)) and knows guns but not sure what to really go for. My ruger is a little large to conceal although I still do it. Are the mini-rugers any good? She's thinking of a 9mm too.

Any suggestions appreciated.

How 'mini' are you talking? SR9 or LC9? Either way you've heard wrong. The SRs are rugged and reliable and shoot well. The LC9 is smaller & lighter and easier to conceal, but not so much so that it's hard to shoot. It's still too new for any long-term reliability, but so far so good. I've got a few hundred rounds through my LC9 without a hiccup, FWIW.

I've found SRs to honestly be less accurate than others in its class, but less accurate doesn't mean inaccurate. It's WAY better than most people holding it. Just look around at the same price range is all. Plus the loaded chamber indicator is honestly a deal breaker for me. It's not as disruptive as it is on the MK III but it still hamstrings the gun for me.

I recommend you sit your lady down in front of some of this girls videos Link: faliaphotography's Channel - YouTube

She talks nothing but sense, and you have to love a girl who gets a new AR and names it "sprinkles"

I love my LCP, its a gread pocket gun. The LC9 has caught my interest lately, which is in 9mm. One thing to keep in mind is the smaller the frame, the more kick you will have. My LCP (.380) has more kick than my 1911 (.45) due to frame size and weight. If she doesn't want much kick you might be better off going with a sub compact or full size pistol.

I would take her to several ranges and rent the guns to try out everything she can. Thats what I did with my girlfriend. You might be surprised by what she ends up liking the best, I was. We decided on 9mm and tried a LOT of guns. She ended up liking the Sig 229 the best. She shot the best with it and she said it felt better then anything else. I was surprised because she is a pretty small girl, only 5' tall and the Sig 229 is not really a small gun.

I believe to pick your main carry gun by picking the one that shoots the best and fits the best for YOU. You can figure out how to carry/conceal after choosing the gun.

Usp Compact!

I would also suggest Springfield XD sub-compact, but depending on how dainty she is it may still be too bulky for her hands.
