I know this question get's asked alot, but I'm looking for a new pistol my grandmother passed away and left us kids some inheritance so I thought I would get a new pistol.I don't know where to start looking. Right now I have a Glock 22, XD9, WaltherP99, Ruger P90, and a Hammerless 357.. I'm looking for something in the 9mm or .40 caliber range as .45 is getting too expensive.. There are so many options out there, glocks, XD's Kahr's, Sigs' etc.. my Price range is in the 6-700 range I love the sigs but the 229's are a little out of my price range.. Anyways just thought I would ask to get some ideas.

The best bet would be to determine whether or not you want a full size, compact, or sub compact handgun. Then, make a list of the guns you are interested in and then do one of two things. Go to a range and rent each one and test fire them, or go to a gun show and see how they fit you...both if you can manage it. It's what I tried to do...not all the places I went to had the guns available to rent. I ended up with an XDm 40 compact, and I couldn't be happier with my choice. |

Well I know I want a full size, sub comp's are too small for my hands, I carry my Glock 22, XD9 and Walther on my shoulder rig and don't have any issues. There are just so many options out there. I like the XD40, fired them on multiple occasions and they feel identical to the XD9. I've always wanted a Kimber but the cost of .45 is inhibitive which is why I've sold a couple of my .45's I Know I dont want another wheel gun.. Beretta's are nice but the 92 and 96 are too big for my hands. I was thinking of Kahr's I've been told those are good pistols, my buddy who's a sheriff carries one as a backup.. I kinda want something a little unique that's not something you see everyday.. I kinda like the 5.7 but again ammo costs come into play there as well as price.

The CPO's are factory reconditioned units. Often totally refinished and hard to distinguish from a brand new pistol. Many times they are Law Enforcement trades that really haven't seen much use other than qualifying and some practice beforehand. MOre likely they suffered from "holster wear" rather than "shooting wear". In the end you'll save a few bucks. Then there's also the alternative. Just put a few bucks of your own with the "inheritance money" and go for a brand new one. You won't be sorry with a Sig. My P-229 has served me well as my EDC for several years now.

Yea that's what Im thinking... It just comes down to 9mm or 40.. reality is both will take a target down, hell a .22 will do it, but it's all about shot placement.. I like the 9mm because of the virtually non existent recoil, where as the .40 has a bit of snap to it, plus it's kinda nice having that little extra punch behind the round.

Get yourself a Dillon 550 w/ all the goodies...learn how to reload and then you can save yourself lot's of money down the road... then your gun choices won't depend on factory ammo prices.... Good investment with G-ma's cash... |

YouTube: Official Beretta PX4 Storm Review ***Below copied from "Beretta Love" post *** Long story short...I just picked up a full sized Beretta Px4 Storm in 9mm ![]() Like, really like, and I haven't fired a round through it ![]() It has the Beretta designed locked-breech with a rotating barrel system to dissipate recoil energy radially, reducing felt recoil and muzzle rise. It's noticeably smoother/sleeker externally than a 92/96. Controls, feel, external hammer, will all feel traditional Beretta...but Low Fat all across the board. The checkered grips provide positive grip and as far as the overall weight...at 27.7 Oz's (9mm) it's 5.6 Oz's lighter than a 92. Daddy likes! Last edited by PiNk TCP; 10-09-2011 at 10:20 AM. Was thinking more about this last night, and I may have had a change of heart, I already have 5 or 6 pistols, have about 8 rifles give or take. I'm kinda eyeing a couple rifles.. So it's a hard decision whether to buy a pistol or a rifle.. I was thinking if I went for another 9mm perhaps a glock 17 or 19 might be a good choice, since they're cheap, parts are cheap and they're simple to upgrade but I'm just not sure.. Kinda flipping a coin.

You can also get a .357Sig barrel and do the same. That's a real "performer" although the ammo is a little $$$$

To each is own but I shot the PX4 along with about 8 other guns and I didn't like it one bit. I was all over the place, don't get me wrong I like Beretta and owned a 92fs right out of basic and kept it for many years but this little guy has a way diffenet feel to it for my taste. It has a cool look to though. I ended up going with a XDm40 after shooting the XD40. Reason was it has the 10 round mag but also has the extended mags which gives it the full service feel and the full kit comes with backstraps and extensions to fit your hand. Also, you can buy the 9mm barrel for another $165 with no modification and save on the .40 rounds. If you shop around you can pick one up in the high $500 low $600 range. I got mine in Spokane for $565 or $575 ( I'd have to check) OTD. |

Hey Gravey, I was thinking about that, I LOVE my XD9, It's the most reliable and best shooting pistol I've got IMO, well the Walther beats it a bit in quality but other than that I love it, the only thing is I already have an XD and was trying to find something a bit different, I haven't handled a storm but I watched a couple video's and looked at pictures of them and I can't say I really like the look of them much. What came to mind when I was thinking of getting the Sig 229 was the possibility of a USP in 9 or .40 as I've fired one in 40 and absolutely loved the feel of it, it was sturdy and the recoil on it was considerably less than that of my Glock 22.. There are just so many options it's hard to decide.

You indicated a full size, and something in 9mm or .40 so how about the new XDm 5.25 model? It's competition ready right out of the box, one of the more accurate plastic pistols you'll find, and the only one that comes with low profile adjustable target sights stock. You've already got an XD9 so the grip angle and general ergos are the same, so you'll feel right at home there. I have an XD9 as well as an XDm9, and I'll soon be trading the XD9 in for a 5.25 model, and my current XDm9 will move to nightstand duty. You also mentioned a new Glock 17/19. I have an old Gen2 Glock 19, but I've found the 1911 style grip angle and ergos of the XD/XDms more to my liking. But I must say the new Gen4 Glocks have upped the ante and fit my hand better than previous Glocks. I'd also mention the G34 (target/competition long slide model) thought I'm not sure if that one is Gen4 yet or not? You've got a lot of duty style pistols, so why not a target model? |
