| Ruger .22LR MKIII/MKII
I've been shooting the crap out of my 10/22 carbine and I love it especially with 50rnd mags. I want to learn pistols now and decided an MKII or III is what I want and not the poly frame. I going to buy use and have never purchased a firearm before what should I be looking for? I know Rugers are tanks but if there is a lemon out there how can I tell? On top of that, anyone selling? -First thread ever!

Ruger's .22 pistols are top-notch. I can't remember hearing a bad word spoken of them. I hope you find one at a good price. :)

I have a SW22A with the target barrel and love it to death. Put thousands of rounds thru it too. I've also heard good things about the ruger one as well.

Browning Buckmark.... *drool* Oh, and if you're going to get the Ruger, get a Mk2 and not a Mk3. The 3's are made a bit cheaper IMO. |

You did say no poly frame, but I have the 22/45 and it's awesome. Same grip angle and basic ergos of a 1911 pistol. I have the 5" stainless bull barrel and it's an absolute tack driver! At any rate you can't go wrong with any of the Ruger .22 pistols, I just prefer the 1911 ergos to Luger ergos.

Thanks for all the feedback. Went to the Puyallup gun show yesterday. Saw about a dozen rugers. It seem to me that the MkII's fetch 300+ because everyone likes the simplicity of the model and lack of a mag safety. The MkIII's I was looking at seemed to run at a premium because they are new. I dont like the poly frame because I dont feel like drilling into the frame to put on a new grip. Originally I wanted the bull barrel too but now if the tapered barrel is accurate enough I'll go with that and maybe swap out to a Volquartsen barrel/reciver later on. Im closing in though I know im going to find one soon. Thanks again guys.

Just bought a Mk III 6" barrel with the steel frame! Brand new. Can't wait to go to the range. I bought a box of federal "american eagle" cheap stuff. Anyone recommend anything ammo wise? Sounds like these things shoot just about anything.
