I have a 7.65 Luger. It has been refinished. The sucker is in pristine condition.. just trying to figure out exactly when it was made etc..

There are SO many variants of this firearm that it's tough to figure out.

Anyone here sharp with Lugers?

Not a Luger aficionado by any means, but I'd like to see pics so as I could try to research it.

Is that an "M" under an eagle on the left side of the receiver over the trigger? As far as the "82"s all over the gun, each Luger was hand finished and the 82 is the last 2 digits of the serial num. Thats a good thing.

If it's a nazi issue, then there should be the nazi winged eagle (waffenamt) all over the damn thing. There should be a waffenamt on the right side of the receiver showing acceptance by the military. Can you look for swastikas and waffenamts? Also, try and get better pics of the small proof markings around the barrel and breech. Pic of any markings to the front or backstrap.

Even if he did have the nazi markings, as the gun has been refinshed, it's only value is as a shooter, nothing more. Nice looking Luger, though.

Yes, and no. A poorly refinished firearm looses much value, but a quality refinish doesn't hurt it nearly as bad as you would think. Especially with a desireable gun like an early Luger. I don't see a prefix on the SN, so it might even be very early. It looks like a Marine (Navy) model, and if it is, it's even more desirable. If it was original and untouched, it would be worth more. But even mix and match Lugers still sell for 7-800ish, at least the last few times I've seen them at shows. An all matching, early make Marine luger in good shape is valuable, regardless of a refinish.

I would be cautious at this point though. There are so many variants and post-war creations, that getting a definitive identification will mean the difference between a gun worth a few hundred, and one worth thousands. There were a bunch of post war commercial Lugers made, and since I didn't see any dates, swastikas or waffenamts, this is a possibility too. Regardless, this would still be pretty valuable, just not as much as a Nazi or pre-war model.

Sorry dude.. I'm obviously not getting email updates from this site. Guess I'd better check my settings again.

The letter below the ser #, and below "Germany" is a cursive, lower case F.

On the left hand side, the letter is an N. Above the N appears to be some sort of crown...

Not nazi. That "Germany" under the barrel didn't look right. Domestic, commercial Lugers made for the german market wouldn't be marked "Germany". I started looking around for commercial Lugers, looks like it might be 1920s manufacture, made for export to the US. Only thing that throws me off is the serial number being so low.
