Woodleigh has a 240 grain bullet that is for the .30-06. Woodleigh doesn't provide any load information. Has anyone used this bullet. I have used other Woodleigh bullets with great success, but it is hell getting load information on thier bullets. The BC = .401 and the bullet is a protected point soft nose that is 1.428" long. Woodleigh makes many heavy for caliber bullets.

I have an Internal Ballistic's program that shows the following for this weight bullet in a standard 30-06 case.

Using IMR 4350 it recommends a load of 48.5 gr (86%) as optimum with speed of 2132 fps.

That would give you 26.8" of "drop" at 300 yards.

A 90% case fill of 50.8 grains, same powder, should speed the bullet up to 2233 fps with a calculated pressure of 48797 CUP.

This assumed a barrel length of 20" and a OAL of 3.340 inches.

This heavy a bullet will have a trajectory a lot like a "rainbow" in this firearm. I prefer to stick with bullets more in the range of 180-220 gr for my 30-06 as they tend to be more accurate for me.

If I were to use the bullet in question I'd start at 48.5 gr of the IMR 4350 and work up from there. The IMR-4350 gave similar speeds with lower pressure than the other offerings such as the Hodgdon 4350.

Thank you for the response. IMR 4350 is one of my favorite powders which I have used for a lot of different loads. What ballistics program do you use? I have RSI Shooting Lab, Ballistic Explorer, and Shoot! 3.5, plus several other free ones, but none give me that kind of information. I intend to use the 240 grain Woodleigh as a short range load for distances 75 yards or less that I need a lot of knockdown power.

I use "Load from A Disc". I don't rely on it for much other than a "safety verification". The Internal Ballistics function does give some pretty good results when using actual water capacity of the case rather than just case volume from a table.

I worked with some .308 loads using Lapua Brass, BR-2 Primers, and Varget. Chronograph speeds were within 5 fps of predicted speeds using this program.

It's also nice because you can extrapolate a speed/pressure/load from simple graphs.

Also has an external ballistics functions as well. Not too expensive at $65

Those are too big for any 30-06.
We tried them in a 300 win mag, and the 208gr A-Max beat it hands down.
A-Max is NOT a hunting round. Its BC .648

a 180 Barnes 3x shock will take anything is the U.S.
