Hi

Just joined.
I need some help.

I used to reload a Speer 240gr SJ-SWC for my 44mag ahead of around 14.5 gr of Bluedot.
I started looking around for these to do some reloading and can't find them anywhere.
They were my favorite round for this pistola. Anybody suggest a source?

I scanned this pic out of my Speer #11 Reloading Manual

looks a lot like all they make now are just lead SWC's, which I would think are ok since they should be much much cheaper.

I think there is hope....

I found two references to that slug. The first one is out of a pdf file that I found on the net. It has a picture of the round and calls it a "4447". It's the upper color part of this picture. The other is out of my Speer Reloading Manual Number 13. It makes reference to the 4447 round but does not have a picture of it anywhere in the book that I can find.

Now if I can find a store with enough stock to have it. Probably I should call Speer tomorrow too.
:ciao:

That would be sweet
I did find 6 rounds that I had loaded last time. So I have a cylinder full. I can't believe I didn't buy up a bunch

I did find some at a store in New Zealand and they'd be happy to sell them to me but the shipping costs would equal the costs of the bullets. $70 us for shipping
I used to buy stuff from a guy in New Zealand and was always surprised at how cheap he could ship me 60 pound boxes.

Be very careful of the Vaquero .45 It is not designed for high pressure loads.

I had the cylinder on one of them blow up on me due to overpressure. Luckily, my Angel, was hovering nearby and I wasn't injured. The cause was an accidental powder overcharge (i.e. my dumbass mistake).

For practicing with larger calibers, it's a lot easier on your hands and ears to load lighter bullets and lower velocities (laws of physics). There are a number of sources for lead bullets (way cheaper) and velocities under 1500 fps, there shouldn't be a big lead fouling issue.
