.38sp and .30-06 dies.

I gotta get a shell holder for the .38sp, but my new press came with a shell holder for .30-06

that does'nt look very new.....hope those price tags are'nt what you paid, if you were wanting that kind of a rapeing on a press I would have brought one over to you while I was over that way.

I love garage sales (etc)
A little oil and steel wool should take off that surface rust.

I have a brand new still in the box 505 scale and powder thrower that are unused in case you want one. ($50 ea)

I've already got a scale and a powder measure

what I'm needing now is a shell holder, I think. it looks like I can size and prime without a shell holder, but once I put powder in, I need to put a bullet in...might not be a problem...we''ll see later today.

either way, it's a huge step up from whack-a-mole

If I read your post right you are going to attempt to resize and prime without using a shell holder.... Please don't try this what will happen is you will jam the shell into the die and it won't come out without using a stuck case remover. Wait and get the proper shellholder!

nope!

I'm playing with some .30-06 brass right now, because I have the shell holder.

the .38/.357 is waiting till I get the shell holder.

on another note: I'm either using my lube wrong or I need to clean the dies, or both...it's a bit sticky...grr

innernets searching points to using lube wrong (I should be letting it dry? also putting some in side the neck?)

but, on the plus side, I get to upgrade my work bench....pics coming later....ugh...

ok, I pulled the primer poker out of the die and put more lube on the necks and rocked through about 150 cases in "nothing flat".

Then, I took a peek at the primer arm and played with it....2 primers seated perfectly, and it seems like I should have been doing that as I was sizing....oh well. next time.

is the arm supposed to be magnetic or something to hold the primer? or is it just kinda tricky to make it stay?

oh, and vic, I know what you meant now...I have a shell holder for the press, but I don't have a shell holder for holding batches of shells so I can't put powder in a bunch of shells and then put bullets in, but my shells won't get stuck in the dies ;)

alrighty, so, here's where I'm at. I have ~90 primed and sized .30-06 cases. I have the bullet depth set and ready to rock. And the powder measure is set for the right amount too.

I now need to add powder and seat bullets.

but I need a funnel...the lee classic system would funnel the powder in...

depends on what level of reloading you want to do :)

do some innernets researching (look at Mic's threads in this section)

...I'm really not qualified to answer this question...but your list looks semi complete...

talk to kolat, he reloads

The Lee Classic kits are right around $100 and have everything you need except for the tumbler and dies. It is possible to be setup for under $200.

Although there are other things that make it easier that you'll want like loading blocks, digital scale, powder trickler, ect..

I'm probably into my reloading gear about a grand now with my single stage press, progressive press, digital powder system, dies, and other odds and ends.

u need about 2 G'S to do it up right ;)

I just jumped in with a dillon 650.. i got my dads dies for 30 06 and 222mag
then there was all this random shizzle i had to get like:
strong mount
roller handle
caliber conversions
shell feeder
tumbler
digital scale
micrometer thing
books and books
toolheads
cleaning media
lube
canned air
brass polish
media seperator

then i started buyin
brass off gun broker
bullets from montana
primers from all over the US
powders from all over the us

I couldnt have done it all without twisting my friends arms with the promise of cheap bullets for them ;)
and its pretty fun. i just sit there and usually crank out 400 rounds a session and listen to music or audio books (tho i dont really hear em cuz im focused)
and in the background ill be processing brass and whatnot.

anyways sorry to hijack :D:thefinger:

I just don't shoot enough to justify all that.

I've made just over 100 rounds

*note: I'm powder and bullets away from 200 rounds...

well it seems like people ask how much does reloading save you? and a lot of answer i see is "well you will shoot more" so there goes your savings :p but its true you definetly shoot more especially if you got buddies chipping in for supplies.

nah, I shoot the same amount, I think.

for me, the difference is that I am more hands on...I brew my own beer, I cook my own food, I work on my own vehicles...it's one more thing to meddle in :)
