thanks brent! That thing looks pretty portable.

RichardPalmer (on here) has one.. I shot it last time we were out..

Hey are there any rumblings of durability with they polymer? Has anyone found any weak spots with the platform?

thanks

Based on the feedback I've found it's plenty durable.

The one weak spot seems to only be an issue with field stripping. The spring guide rod and buffer are polymer, it's very strong in the direction it's intended to be (during operation). But if the gun isn't cocked prior to disassembly, the hammer has potential to snag this piece and snap it.

Ideally I think that piece should be replaced with steel, since my intent with this gun would be the option to carry concealed and disassembled. For normal use I don't think it's an issue.

Yeah, after researching and working with the Storm a bit I'm pretty excited about it. I think it offers a lot of options.

The Pistol Caliber Carbine is just a janitor in the land of the rifle, but it's King in the realm of the pistol. Other than carrying covertly, anything you can do with a pistol you can do easier with a PCC.

It's a niche tool, and isn't the best choice in some arenas, but in its niche I think it's excellent.

Personally I think it's the best tool for home defense, as I note in the article. Love my rifles, but I've got no desire to touch off a round in my home. I like my hearing, and though I have ear pro at my bedside there's no guarantee I'll have it on...and I like my family to be able to hear if shots are fired as well.

Yeah, I'm sure plenty would argue the power of the cartridge -- and I'm not so foolish as to compare it to a rifle round. But I like what it offers as well.

I'd actually consider a PS90 because I like the 5.7 round so much. But 9mm is sooooooo easy to come by and it's so inexpensive to shoot compared to pretty much any other caliber short of .22LR.

But while I only have a red dot on the Storm, I don't see any reason a magnifier couldn't make this a decent mid-range weapon -- whereas I don't think that would be as easily accomplished with the PS90 (that being said, I've never tried either).

Shooting man sized steel targets, we regularly make hits at 100 yards with pistols. I'm not talking moa kind of accuracy, but minute of man? Oh yeah. Focusing on the fundamentals, it's not terribly difficult. Is this the primary use of a pistol? No, but it's an option given certain scenarios...active shooter in a mall for instance.

So if that can be done with pistols, you bet it can be done with a Storm. Pretty much any PCC in 9mm is going to be good out to 100, easily. Past that is harder but can certainly be done. Using good ammo, an accurate gun (which the Storm is) and a decent shooter, absolutely. And red dots make work at 100 yards relatively easy (assuming your marksmanship fundamentals are good).

Obviously at that range and past we'd rather have a rifle...but we don't always carry rifles. There are circumstances where you can carry a PCC that would be much more difficult or impossible with a rifle.

Have you modded yours in any way? Mine is bone stock. The only thing I've done is taken it apart, cleaned it, put the ejection guard on the wrong side (nothing like having hot brass fly out at your face), etc. I've not even tinkered with adjusting pull with the spacers (but I liked it out of the box so don't know if I will).

The only thing I have on mine is an optic...

I actually don't own a CX4...though I would definitely like one after working with it.

It's only the last couple years that I started really showing interest in the PCC realm. Pistols, assault and battle rifles cover you pretty well, but there is definitely a place in the armory for the PCC. In its niche I think it excels and depending on the mission is the best tool for the job. To that end I've been working with the Uzi a lot and like that platform very much. (I have a custom made topcover for it, with a side charging handle and Trijicon RMR).

The CX4 I used for the article is my dad's. I hadn't worked much with them before and decided it would make a good writing topic for the blog. I do tend to customize my stuff and there are some things I'd definitely recommend/consider. I talk about that in part 3 of the article, which I'll post next week.
