Understanding Shotgun Chokes

I checked with my guns Manufacturer (Mossberg) about slugs and buckshot and what not. They had recommendations for different chokes for different ammo and what models were not conducive to certain kinds of ammo, for instance, the 835 is overbored and slugs can waffle and lodge in the barrel. Other manufacturers have done a less than stellar job of making this kind of ammo compatability information available in the web.

Another interesting thing I learned if you shoot 20ga and 12ga, and you accidentally stuff a 20ga load in a 12ga it can drop into the bore, which is not a terrible big deal if you catch it, whitch most of the time I think you would. If you allow a 12ga round to chamber up behind it, the results can be devastating.
