Anyone have any hands on Stevens 350 opinions?

The title spells it out. I want to get my dad a shotgun for home defense (and some target shooting because we can). Cabela's has the Stevens 350 for 200 and what I could find using Google seemed positive, but I was wondering if you guys have any experience with and thoughts about this shotgun. Thanks!

I've heard great things about Savage's Rifles, haven't heard much about their shotguns, a pump action shotgun itself is pretty basic, there's not a whole lot that can go wrong with them beyond the obvious. With their reputation I would assume that the Savage/Stevens 350 is a pretty solid gun..

The Stevens models are imported from China, make sure you read reviews from people that are not paid advertisers for these gun manufacturers. I'd spend an extra $100-150 and get a Mossberg 500 or a Remington 870 express. Those guns will still be reliable 20 years.

^^^^^^^^^^What he said!!!!

The Stevens 350 is a Chinese copy of the Winchester 1200/1300/Speed Pump.

It wasn't the best shotgun around when Winchester made it---and the Chinese
don't make it any better, and if something breaks parts will be a problem.

Watch the sale ads--Mossberg makes a 500 combo with a long and short
barrel that comes on sale frequently for not much more than the Stevens.

Thanks guys. I'll probably just pick up that Mossberg 500 with the combo barrel Bill mentioned. Big 5 has it for 300.

Your points are all still correct, but the Stevens 320 is based off the wingmaster. The 350 is off the Ithaca 37 so it's bottom ejected and has a ghost ring sight which was why I considered it.

My mistake--was going from memory and that tends to get me in trouble!
You are correct, the 350 is a 37 sorta clone. However--the 320 is not based
on the Remington Wingmaster, but rather the Winchester 1200/1300.

The chinese clone of the 870 Wingmaster is a norinco 98, sold here as
the Interstate Arms Hawk 982.

There goes my memory getting me in trouble. Either way, I got the Mossberg 500.

I love trap shooting, It's awesome fun!

It seems fun. I almost bought the 500 Security (8 shot 18.5" barrel) for 299.99 from big 5 but went with the two barrel one for 309.99 so trap shooting or any other long barrel uses are an option.
