For those who may not be aware and are interested, you can get a Pennsylvania License to Carry Firearm (LTCF) for $26 for 5 years. It can all be done thru the US Mail. However, sometime in 2011, that is supposed to change and all applicants, supposedly, will need to apply in person. The sheriff at the link below is very gun friendly and issues to non residents quickly. The link includes an application. Centre County Sheriff's Office The only requirement is that you must have a license to carry a firearm (concealed carry permit) from your home state if that state has a concealed carry law. Also see here for PA's Firearm Reciprocity Agreements. Enjoy! Last edited by HiredGoon; 03-11-2010 at 08:16 PM. |

BTW, do you know of any WA sheriff or PD that will issue to me, a PA resident thru the mail, if I supply prints taken by my local PA State Police barracks, a copy of my PA carry license and a copy of my PA driver license...along with the WA CPL application? |

I've already got one... I grew up in Pittsburgh (and lived in Philly for two years before moving out here). |

I heard otherwise...all the new law requires is a picture. As such, wouldn't a passport photo suffice? I highly doubt Centre County is going to give up all that extra revenue so easily. |

Centre County has no "say" as to how the system is administered, as this new system is supposed to make the process uniform statewide. I'm sure Centre hates giving up all the extra revenue, but they will have to conform. From the sheriff's website: SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT ON LICENSE TO CARRY FIREARM ACT 66 2005 THE STANDARDIZATION & MODERNIZATION OF PROCESS SYSTEM UPDATED POST - 2/15/11 We have implemented the new statewide system. There have been some problems with the new system and times we were unable to issue a license through the new system. In those cases we still utilize the old system. Until these issues are resolved we will continue utilizing both the old and new system. Once the new system has all the glitches worked out we will no longer utilize the old system and all applicants and renewals will need apply in person. When we make the full transition to the new system we will provide a one week window for processing via mail. Last edited by HiredGoon; 02-23-2011 at 07:19 PM.

I think the last two sentences are instructive. They are looking for a way to get out of this ridiculous requirement and I think they will find it sooner or later. Either way, my renewal was in the mail two weeks ago, so I'm good to go. |

Cant wait till government issued permission slips are a thing of the past. But until that time, I just mailed away for the PA one. And for the person asking about WA permits for out of state? You can't. Well I take that back, you can but you must apply in person, And why would you want one at 55 bucks? |

And reciprocity with OH is exactly why I got the WA CPL, as I am in W. PA. PA does not have reciprocity with OH, but we do have it with WV, another state which borders PA ;)

I did my PA one last year, also through Center Co. They were just as fast as KPD, and I was most pleased. I used to do NH, but since they jacked their price up to $100 for non-residents arbitrarily,I switched. PA gets you all the same states as NH, except for AL, and you even get one or two extras.

Yeah. PA dropped the license to carry firearms from $25 down to $20. The extra $5.00 was put in place several years ago as a modernization fund. Now that the new, "modern" system is in place, the statute called for the price to go back to $20. It is still issued for 5 years. However, as mentioned, the "modern system" basically forces applicants to apply in person. No more done by mail. |
