first rule of fishing...don't use a bobber

well unless your steelhead fishing with jigg bobber setup or maybe doing some fly bobber action.

Other then that, you should never use a bobber :P

Don't get discouraged. Keep in mind, due to budget cuts, on the eastside our lakes weren't stocked up like they usually are this year, so fishing is slow everywhere. In fact I haven't seen many people out fishing at all which is nice for me and my buds.

Although we've harvested lots of 2-2.5lb (40-50 lbs worth) rainbows that were yummy yum yum on the BBQ and released one 1.5lb largemouth bass (his mouth was bigger than his body), the fishing has been pretty slow as compared to years past.

Further more, watch out for ticks, Sunday afternoon, Kolat and I picked 9 of them off my dog.

and how lots of fish are caught

if you're fishing trout, use trout bait either off the bottom or a bobber, worms off the bottom or a bobber, or wedding ring spinners. if I can't get them to bite on that stuff, I usually go home for the day.

this year since I don't have a boat anymore we've been fishing from the fishing docks at silver, newman and liberty and shore from west medical. Also tried fishing from shore at badger but no luck.

I have been fishing for rainbows at costco! pretty good size and tasty too...About $2.99 per pound when they got them... already cleaned too! just too darn many people to go fishing anymore..They break up the quiet with screaming kids, they leave trash everywhere, they don't respect your "SPACE" and throw their hook right beside yours.. and they scream and swear when you throw their butts in the water.. I use to love fishing, now if i go, I bring a gun! Ever see our immigrants fish? No license, don't respect size or catch limits or species in season..oh well, just about the same as our American Indian Friends netting clean accross the river then they don't come out for days to check their nets while the fish caught in the nets spoil...Fishing is not fun anymore...

FWIW I just got back from Blue Lake (Sun Lakes, just below Grand Coulee dam) opening day fishing trip. We caught plenty of rainbows, as usual. But we always fish from a boat, trolling little 2-blade Hildebrands with a worm behind it on a 6-8" leader. Works great.

I should also mention I caught the biggest trout ever (8 lbs) fishing off the shore by our campsite with.... a worm & a bobber, on an ultralight spinning setup. Short of trolling off a boat, a worm & bobber or just a worm on a bare hook, depending on where you're fishing, can and does work.

lol, worm and bobber is usually about the best way to fish, for real.

I use a small bobber right off the hook so it keeps the worm off the bottom but depending on where it's at I'll use 2-3 feet of leader before the weights (for particularly grassy spots). My favorite lake is South Twin lake near La Pine.

I used to fish a whole bunch when I was younger. I'm looking to get back into it this year. I've caught countless amounts of rainbow trout. The setup I use is like this.

Slide an egg sinker onto your main line. Then slide on a red bead, so that the sinker sits on the red bead. Then I tie a swivel. Not the type with a little latch thing, but both sides of the swivel have the round "eye" type of set up. So now you have a sinker, red bead, and swivel all connected to your main line. Then after that get yourself some leader line. Don't be fooled on sales gimmicks I've landed fish on the cheapest line out there. Your only fishing for trout so it won't matter too much. Make your leader according to to the depth you want to fish. Around here 2-2 1/2 feet is good. So set up accordingly. That's the basic trout set up I use.

Now a few tips. I never use a lie heavier then 6lb test for my main line. And I use about 4lbs test for my leader line. I have even used 2lbs test for my leader line. Just set your real up so that your line doesn't snap. The baits that I use locally are the power bait power eggs. Yes the colors matter. Just depends what it looks like outside and what the fish are hitting. One color could get you bites all day, while another just sits in the water all day. Where my bro fishes it's marshmellows and worm combos.

This are my suggestions for fishing trout off the bank, or dock. Hope it helps some.

Oh also the hooks I use are the little egg hooks. Not sure the size but they are tiny and gold. I usually use two power eggs on one hook. Just thread the eggs on to cover the hook and slide up onto the line and then thread the other egg onto the hook and let the hook protrude out of the second egg.
