Lightbulb Which pistol

So my "friend" wants another pistol, main use is going to be for home defense.
he seems to be stuck on the 45 cal. Right now he is leaning towards a Sig because of the cost. I am a kimber guy myself and of course I used to paying 1,000 plus for any pistol. He is stuck in the up to 500 dollar range. Which name brand pistol do you think is the best bang for your buck in this application?

Where can he get a Sig for $500.00? Sign me up!

Now for a .45 that you can actually get for around $500.00, I say Springfield XD.

They function flawlessly & have a high capacity. What else do you want for home protection?

Have you tried telling him that a shotgun is a better way to go for home defense for that price?

I have a friend in the same boat as yours... though I've got him thinking 9mm as it's cheaper to go to the range and practice practice practice.

you don't know much about shotgunning, do you?

at "home defense" ranges, there's not much spread from a shotgun, so, in fact, you could miss, twice, and then be scrambling for more rounds.

Purchase a shotgun that has more than a 2 round capability. To a home intruder, the psychological impact of the sound of a pump action shotgun being chambered can not be overstated.

Arrow Mossberg shotgun for HD

I have been pondering the same issue. I have decided to start saving up my quarters for a Mossberg 500, 18.5" barrel, 12G, 5 plus 1 capacity, parkerized shotgun. I think that Jason over at Low Cost Guns has a special going on right now on selected Mossbergs.

YMMV,
boomer

Depends on the intruder. Some may run. Some may be hopped up on the goofballs and come at you bro'. Personally if it comes down to it, the guy I fire at won't hear SCHNUK-SCHNUK!!!!. If he has really good ears he'll hear "click" which is the sound of the safety on my 5 in the mag and one in the pipe 590a1

They said it would be out fourth quarter 2011 at the shot show, wheres the dragging ass?

There are supposedly demo guns going around currently & last I read Kel-Tec is still saying we will see some sort of release in the fourth quarter.

there is a little thing i learned in the marine corps called singucu warrior. the first line of defense is to strip down naked and chase your enemy, second is to puke on said enemy, third,, well i will just leave that for my enemies. So with that being said having any gun is just the topping on the pie.. and yes I have been drinking on a tuesday night/wednesday morning, dont judge

I have a springfield XD in .45 that I'm real happy with.

It doesn't shoot as well as my 1911's but it feels better in my hand than glocks. It's in the night stand next to it's friend mr. flashlight and a couple 13 + 1's.

It's got a rail, but I kind of like having the light seperated. I might put a laser on it someday..

My Ruger P89 is a gem. Shoots straight and clean on the range, feels great in the hands... almost as good as my woman ;p

I have a Mossberg 590 8 and a Beretta PX-4 Storm 9mm. I prefer the handgun but the shotgun is always good to have. I bought the PX-4 for just over $500 and the Mossberg 590 for just over $300 but I then added an M4 stock and a grip.

He can get a glock for that kind of cash I would recommend a G36 45 cal because shooting twice is well silly
not a lot of capacity but it sure will get their attention

I keep my shotgun in my living room area, which is almost my kitchen. I live in a small house. LOL! I also keep my pistol next to bed on my night stand.
