City, county announce new gun buyback program | www.kirotv.com
"
Seattle and King County officials announced a new gun buyback program that will have people handing in their unwanted guns in exchange for Amazon gift cards.

Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn joined former mayors Norm Rice and Charles Royer, and police and community leaders to announce Seattle's first gun buyback program in 20 years.
"

They will offer $100 Amazon gift cards for rifle, shotgun or handgun, and $200 gift cards for assault weapons. And I think this means actual assault weapons.

Does anyone know of any legal president or laws against hanging out on the sidewalk in fron of this place with a wad of cash offering more than what the Police are offering? I'm sure you could score some pretty sweet deals, and people always like cash more than gift cards, especially when you are offering more.

What do you guys think? See any of you there?

I've wondered that very thing. Just offer them double in cash of what they would have gotten in gift cards.

I have a feeling those that are willing to turn in guns would be doing it more for moral/social reasons rather than the $100/$200 gift cards. And they'd most likely turn a blind eye to a random person offering them cash for their stuff. ;)

I wish they would do that here I got 3 broken guns here, thats $300. That would get rid of my non functional guns, then sell the cards for $175 to my sister and go buy a new hipoint 9mm, SCORE!

Most of the guns you will see are going to be old and non functioning. Those people aren't going to get rid of their good guns. you will probably see the random people who found an old rifle of grandpa's ad sell it off because they don't like guns not realizing that it's a wwII nazi mp40 or something similar in value. Those are the people that you should look for lol.

I remember that thread within the last couple months where a lady did just that -- found a rifle and brought it in. Luckily the cops were cool and let her know what she had (WWII rifle) and that it would just be destroyed if she left it with them. Thing was worth several thousand...

it was a Sturmgewehr 44 worth possibly 20-25k

that was an awesome story... the lady that had it (I believe her dad brought it back fromt he war) had no idea that it was worth anything.. Cool of the buyback guys to tell her!

These buy backs are a joke, a PR stunt and 'feel good' event that really does nothing to reduce crime/murders. The vast majority of guns are rusty crappy old guns that don't work and would cost the owner more to fix them, if they even cared. Bad guys aren't going to turn in their guns, plain and simple.

Of course I'm preaching to the choir here.

I knew a guy once that stole his dads 30-06 to sell for drugs. I wonder how many tweekers wait till the day of the buy back, go steal, and then sell them to the cops? No questions asked.

^they are running serial numbers looking for stolen guns, and returning them to their rightful owner.

better idea: take your collection, report it stolen, "sell it back"

you're welcome.

I thought it was "no questions asked"?

Or are they not asking questions, but then checking after the fact for serial numbers? I'd hate to have my stuff destroyed after being stolen...

So it didn't go as well as I had hoped, but it was better than it could have been. The news said they collected over 700 guns, and I'm pretty sure at least that many got purchased while waiting in the massive lines. My brother and I picked up 10 different guns. No major scores, but a few good finds.

All the police we talked to supported what we were doing. And they refered to "higher ups" that were driving this and they were all annoyed that so many great guns were going to be destroyed.

I wonder how many gang members turned in their 9's? Cause you know it's all about getting the dangerous guns off the street :ninja:
