Friendly shooting spots

So I'm new to shooting in Washington. I grew up here, but became "born again" when it comes to firearms in Alaska. I got pretty used to being able to pull over anywhere and make a 500 yard range.
Does anybody know where I can have some fun in the back roads? that won't upset the neighbors and still follow the laws.
It's a pain going to the range and waiting for a cease fire. I just want to have fun with friends in the woods.
I know we don't always want to give away the gems. Im Just looking for a place to start.

Thanks everybody,
Happy shooting.

Welcome, and I think we all share your pain. The good spots to shoot outdoors are dwindling away. There have been a fwe threads on this in the past, but I don't know how outdated any of the info would be. I haven't done anything on the east side, so I can't really help you there. Sorry.

you can shoot on non-closed DNR and FS land, if you follow each agency's rules, and shoot safely.

I know a few spots, close to where I live, and further out. those spots do not get told to people I have not shot with personally, but I found them by looking at land owned by those agencies, driving out there, and poking around.

I just drove up Tinkham yesterday to check it out way up the road. A Fish and Game officer told me if you go far enough up its legal, but I went up quite a ways and it has huge red signs everywhere saying no shooting....

Me and a few folks went up to green mountain in Granite Falls, though that is quite a ways from Seattle, There are a bunch of no shooting signs but everyone and there respective mommas were out that day so we just kept trucking up the mountain and found a decent spot and got to shooting.

I'd like to find a better place to go out though so if anyone has any hidden grottos I would love to hear about them. I can be a ghost, clean up right and keep it a secret.

I used to drive up Pilchuck all the time to shoot. There's a huge pit probably 3/4 to the top of the mountain, maybe 100 yards square. We'd often have the place to ourselves. But it's a trek to get there, and often snowed in.

Many places near Granite and Arlington. Just take some deserted fireroads out far enough, hike in about 100yds, and shoot into a hillside. If you want -shoot from the bed of your truck- convenience, well those are in short supply anymore. Sultan Basin used to be a great place, but illegal dumpers ruined it. Now it's posted the enture way up that road. Doesn't help that the road leads to the major water supply for all of Snohomish county either.

Sounds like I'm gona burn a lot has trying to find a spot on some fire roads. But I have some great places to start looking now.
Like John mf Rambo said, I can be a ghost, so we don't spoil these spots.

you might think you're a ghost, but spots I've found have been shut down after I told one person.

while correlation isn't causation......it is.

I know exactly where you're talking about, they shut that area down 3-4 years ago, people were hauling all sorts of trash and **** up there and just dumping it. That's why people are pretty tight lipped about sharing their spots.

You literally have to go all the way up to the top, it's a pretty nice area, I know there was an article about it a couple of years ago because someone from whatever agency was up there checking stuff, and he had bullets "whizzing" by him, and it was temporarily shut down, I found a few better spots so I haven't been up there in ages.

I completely understand were your coming from. Do you know anywhere I can get a map of forest service land? I guess I'll just have to go on an adventure and find my own little spot.

I too am looking for a safe out of the way place to shoot. I understand that local ranges don't allow semi auto rifle caliber shooting. Heard of a place up Highway 2, but not sure if that is a legal option. Looking for options east and north of Woodinville.

Chomping at the bit to zero in a new rifle.
