Plinking Locations Western WA

I'm a newbie, so maybe there is an old thread that already discussed this topic. Without having to drive forever from my Renton Location is there a place for just good old fashion plinking say within an hours drive? There are plenty of ranges near where I live, but I'm tired of just punching holes in paper.
Plus it will renew the interest of my 12 year-old son if he could shoot at fun things - exploding bottles of water, melons, pumpkins, cans, steel targets, zombie targets, etc. I was planning on taking him to the range today, and his response was "I don't want to go shooting today dad". I have to make shooting fun for him again, because I'm up against stiff competition of Minecraft and TV.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

There can be many found in the green areas that you can find here:
https://www.google.com/maps/preview

Here are guidelines about how to choose a location:

And, no, I won't tell you where I go, because the last time I did, that spot got told, so did the last one, and the one before that. The spots get littered, used, then shut down. So, find 2 spots: 1 that you take your friends to, and 1 that you take only yourself to.

Yup. The a**holes have ruined it for everyone. You pretty much cannot sgoot in the woods anymore.

Well, pretty soon it might be illegal to take a friend along and let them shoot your guns anyway...

I hope that doesn't pass, but I don't think I will be surprised if it does.

That being said, on topic now, if I knew of any spots over there I would share with you by PM, but I don't have anything over on that side of the Sound.

There is NOWHERE to shoot from Seattle to Snoqualmie Pass off I-90 anymore. None, zero, zip, nada. All off limits.

However, once over the pass, there are plenty of places, you just have to get off the freeway and up in the mountains a bit.

To the SE, you can head out Hwy 410 out of Enumclaw. There's nowhere til you get past Greenwater, but shortly after that you will find FS roads disappearing into the mountains, and plenty of places there as well.

Just shoot smart, know your backstop, and don't litter... pack it out.

What's the snow situation out to the SE right now? I'm somewhat new to the area and haven't been out there in winter yet. I have a sturdy 4WD with winch but prefer to avoid deep snow.

I stumbled across this during my searching and thought you guys might enjoy. Given that the link is from another site I apologize if I stepped on any toes.

WaGuns.org Range Map

from what I gather they keep this updated pretty often but I don't know for sure.

That waguns.org map is ok, but some locals keep their spots off the map. Let me know if you get as far North as Whatcom County.

I'm new to the area also. I am in north Kitsap county and I prefer to do my shooting in the woods. Seems like plenty of woods across the Hood Canal Bridge. What are the rules for shooting in the Forest?

We have the same problem here on peninsula.I usually take a rake and a hand full of trash bags. As long as its not raining ,I try to rake up a couple of trash bags of stuff
from the shooting area and haul it away to a proper dump site. Some times it seems
I'm not making much difference, but if I didn't do anything I just wouldn't feel right about it. If anyone else cares to join in ,I would welcome anybody who would like to pitch in
here or any other place in western Washington.
