If you haven't heard.. The city of Seattle is proposing a ban on smoking in parks.. Hmm,,, the gun ban didn't work. Judge ruled against it.. Now Tobacco use in public parks are under fire. What's next ? Carhart pants in public ? Holy Bejeesus ! Now, as a parent of a pre-schooler, I can see somewhat what the city is saying. Cig. Butts on the ground really irk me. Young toddlers pick up everything and put it in the mouth. Gross when it's someone's elses "butt".. And yes my daughter did it. But, as a smoker,. This crap pi$$es me off !! With Spring and summer coming I will be out flying kites with my little one, playing on the swings etc. being a Dad. But yet, I cant take a break and smoke a cig. ? We smokers do not force others to breath our smoke downwind. In fact, most of us pay attention and respect non smokers. Correct ? And this is not in a building or closed quarters. It's "open air".. Why dont they just leave us smokers alone. We are a dying breed.. Ok. Venting done.. Am I the only one who thinks this a crap law ? |

Sounds like they should enforce the littering laws, not enacting more nanny-state laws outlawing smoking. Seattle is becoming a mini-California. |

It's been over a year since my last cigarette, but this ban is absolutely ridiculous! I agree with enforcing littering laws because cigarette butts on the ground bugs me (even when I did smoke), but telling people they can't smoke outside is dumb, makes me want to take it up again just so I can go to parks and smoke. Next they are going to ban pop since it is bad for you.

Personally, I hate the smell of cigarette smoke, and while you sound to be thoughtful about how your habit affects others, many smokers are not so considerate. That being said, I still think this is rediculous. I can understand inside or at work where others can't always get away, but in a park? Come on, the government needs to stop trying to babysit its citizens. It just shows you how the politicians view their constituents. They think we are too irresponsible to make our own wise decisions about what is best for us, and they have to "protect" us. They have no respect.
