Building my AR

Hey guy's I'm finally about to receive my complete AR upper and lower parts kit (already have the lower). I'm fairly confident in my abilities to assemble this properly but I've read a few horror stories on getting these roll pins installed properly, so I was wondering if anyone has the specific roll pin holders/punches for the install that I could possibly borrow.

I just did my first one ever.. and it was really easy..
I used this page:
:: Guides

followed it pretty much exactly.. I swapped around the order on a couple things.

the only one that was even remotely tricky was the front roll pin.

I didn't bother with any of the special tools, my method was..

Use a very small pair of needlenose pliers to push the detent and spring down.. then slide the rollpin over the detent holding it in place, and just push it through.

I shot the spring out a couple times before I got it in there, but I think if I would have started w/the needlenose, It woulda gone smooth the first time.

I've put together two more lowers for buddies and all said and done.. it now takes me about 20 minutes from stripped lower to fully assembled (buttstock / pistol grip) lower.

Other guys are probably way more experienced than me but its really not that tricky.

I'd suggest laying all your parts out, and figureing out what's what before you start, and don't get the safety detent spring confused with the two rollpin springs. I did that on one of them.. lol

Be careful with the bolt catch roll pin, it can be a bitch. It's very easy to scratch up that nice new lower doing it, as I learned. Lube the roll pins and pay attention to what your doing and it should be good.

The rest was cake after that front roll pin. Now I'm waiting for my carbine stock to come in the mail. Then I'll be done, until I can afford a Magpul stock and front rail.

Tape over any part of the receiver that may get hit or scratched when installing the roll pins to prevent damaging it. I have always used standard punches to install roll pins, but if you are concerned about getting the pins in without causing damage get a set of roll pin punches. They have a little nipple to help align the punch to the pins.

Aside from the roll pins, the rest is pretty straight forward.
