This is nuts and really reflects poorly on everyone who owns/carries a gun. When is this going to stop? Will Seattle become the next city to ban guns? I don't want that to happen and I doubt neither of you do either, obviously, or you wouldn't be a member of this forum.

The past week has been hell with all the shootings in Folk Life and now the two today that happened within 1 hour of each other. The last thing we want is our guns taken from us and our right to carry. Something needs to be done but not that extreme.

It upsets me when people take the lives of others in this manner and my thoughts and prayers go out to the families and loved ones of the vic's.

What really surprises me is SPD has to wait for a search warrant to retrieve the gun on the front seat of the SUV. Whatever happened to probable cause?? Ugh.

it's getting a little weird out there.. and the gun control freaks will undoubtedly leverage any publicity to help their cause.

It sounds vigilante-ish, but imagine if every citizen in these circumstances were trained and carrying legally?

We need to figure out a way to explain our side, and the fact that armed criminals would treat potential victims very differently if they believed 1/2 of the room was carrying.

Seattle is a very liberal city, most officials are democrats, they will push some type of gun ban. Didn't I hear on TV news that two of the individuals were illegally in possession of firearms. They were too young to be carrying concealed, must be at least 21. You can't stop illegal carry with a new law, it's already against the law. Only law abiding people obey the laws, so more laws do not make it any safer. I'm with you in that if more people were legally carrying then this idiot may have been stopped much sooner than he was.

yeah i saw on a live news conference with the seattle mayor that he was gonna look at ways to control this gun violence and i shuddered at the thought of disarming more law abiding citizens.

He's dead. Justice is served. But now the mourning for the vics families. What a terrible tragedy. Did anyone hear the Mayor's Press Conference? What a bunch of politcial posturing and campaigning at the expense of the vics! Total grandstanding.

typical liberal bullshit.. I hate violence and victimizing weaker or unarmed people.

I wish the LEO's would state the facts and help uphold legal gun ownership.. the news and politicians obviously have an angle.. It would be great if the armed defenders of the public had a voice that supported legal responsible gun ownership..

but they're pretty much politicians themselves (at least by the time they get in front of a mic) so that's probably just wishful thinking.

Lets just divide up the country.. gun guys on one side, liberal crybabies on the other.. I know where I'd go to have a successful career as a criminal.

Josh is right - Keep in mind that the spin of the LEO's on the news is HEAVILY influenced by politics. It's refreshing when you see an elected sheriff in a non-hippy dominated county call it like it really is but if you live in King County, I doubt that will ever happen.

I despise those who not only refuse to take an active role in ensuring their own safety but do everything possible to make it so no one else can. It sickens me that our society has become so adverse to personal responsibility.

Apparently, the shooter didn't have any "violent convictions," which is why he had a CPL. Problem is, the crybabies will capitalize on that fact... not good. In a way, I do like the idea of a "cooling off period," like some states have anywhere from a 5-15 day wait period. Thing is, if someone wants to take another person out, they will find a way. If it hadn't been for the gun, he may have just as easily taken an SUV and smashed into the est., killing that way.

I just don't appreciate the way the Mayor, the Councilman, and asst. Chief kept saying how "happy" they were to be here and what an "honor" it was to be standing there... sick.Freakin' politicians. Had it been my family that were the victims, I'd be calling and writing pretty scathing letters to Mayor McSchwinn's office.

Someone said that an armed society is a polite society. I agree.

Dude was mentally ill. More and better mental health services, not less guns, is the answer here. Even the significantly more restrictive gun control would have left him in the legal possession of a handgun. Seems like he'd had it for years, never previously violent, etc.

He did have mental issues, and his family tried to get him help, but he wouldn't go, and you can't force someone until you can demonstrate they are a danger to themselves or others. Well, I guess we answered that question, he is a danger.

But I don't think accusations of mental distress should be enough to revoke your permit, or any angry ex or family member could accuse you and cause all sorts of problems.

As far as the Seattle gun ban goes, the mayor is just posturing and trying to win over more liberals. He knows very well, especially after the whole park gun ban thing, that the State preemption forbids him from enacting ANY more restrictive gun laws than what the state has.
