They also captured a dangerous "stinger rocket launcher"

Unfortunately for your headline it's not a "Stinger Missile" It's a FIM-43 Redeye the first version was produced in 1956 (XM41). The one the SPD captured is a FIM-43 Redeye.. They stopped producing them in 1969. The stinger started production in 1972. As you said in your article.. this was a spent launcher, with no ammo available for the last 30+ yrs.

I saw the spent missile housing in the guys trunk. Nobody wanted to buy it from him though because we weren't sure it was legal to own.

Unfortunately, there wasn't a lot of quality stuff out there. Most of the guns turned in were old, broken or both. A few good things went into their garbage bins, but there were more than 100 people out on the street trying to snatch up any good deals. There was a lot of competition.

Everyone go down to the next one with $500 and see what you can buy and barter out of the crowd, that would make for a fun show and tell thread.

Any examples of any gems that were bought by citizens?

There was a really nice shape M-1 Garand that a guy picked up for $110. Saw a few other rifles slung over the shoulders of the buyers walking around. I didn't see any quality handguns, but they probably dissapeared into pockets or backpacks quickly. I did pick up a Barreta 21A bobcat for $50 though.
