Hey Guys, I'm moving to Oregon in August and just had a couple questions. Is open carry legal? If so, is it frowned upon or a regular thing? Also, how long do you think it would take to obtain my CCW? Looking forward to pickup an NFA firearm before that goes away there too.

You are better off to get your concealed carry permit if you are going to OC in Oregon. It is required by some city or county ordinances to open carry a loaded pistol. Open carry is permitted, you just can't have it loaded or any loaded magazines without the CPL.

Time to get your CHL varies. In Yamhill county, it was in my mailbox a week after I applied. Others, such as Multnomah county, take a lot longer.

Hey guns, been here for a few weeks now. Loving it so far. I got my CPL as I was leaving the Sheriff's Office to complete the application process. Thanks.

I am living in South Central Oregon and open carry in warm weather whenever I'm going back and forth to/from my ranch. I also have at times open carried in some stores (even in line at the Post Office without any special notice by PO staff) when I'm coming or going to my ranch in warm weather. I almost always am open carrying in my vehicles and at the gas stations. I have never been confronted or asked to leave. Even OC going into the Sheriff's station doesn't lift an eyebrow. Also keeping in mind, I'm an old guy. When I'm going to places that might have those ant-gun nuts where I'm going, I usually carry something much smaller under my shirt on my belt, concealed to avoid their crap. I'm never walking down the street open carrying rifles. Just my thing. ![]() |
