So what's the law concerning traveling to another state with a loaded handgun in my car? I'm going to Ft. Benning, GA and I will have my firearm here and there legally with my CWP, but what about those states in between? I read somewhere a while back about a bill that will allow this to happen but can't seem to find it. Thanks |

You will only be able to travel through States with a loaded firearm if that state allows you to do so under their laws. If allow it without a CPL, great. Most that do will require a CPL from a State that they have reciprocity with. I would suggest that you first plot your route and then check Handgunlaw.us for the States you will travel though and their laws. The "law" you most likely were referring to was a safe transport law that essentially said if it was legal for you to posses a firearm on both ends of your trip you would be "safe" transporting it between those points. If you stopped and spent the night along the way you are still subject to the "possession" laws of the State you stopped in. |

I guarantee that you will be going through a lot of states that won't allow it. Definitely look at the handgunlaws site but my guess is that you should leave it unloaded and locked in the trunk.
