Trigger-happy Atlanta mom shoots intruder in the face 5 times. NOTE: (THeir words, not mine)!
3 hrs ago An Atlanta mom took matters into her own trigger-happy hands on Friday when confronting an intruder. The unidentified woman hid with her 9-year-old twins in a crawlspace as a man broke into her house and began rummaging through it. The alleged burglar, Paul Ali Slater, eventually found the family’s hiding space, but not before finding himself staring down the barrel of a .38 revolver. The woman fired six shots, five of which hit Slater in the face and neck, but he managed to flee after the family ran to a neighbor’s house. Slater is expected to survive. This story, shared thousands of times from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution website, has incited some pro-gun tweeps to voice their delight; @Jennecar writes of the story, “why we need guns in our homes!”

You're probably right, but that's besides the point. Remember the goal is not necessarily to kill someone, but to make them stop whatever they're doing that made you shoot them in first place. In this case dude broke into the house, and was coming after the mom & kids. If he just wanted to rob the place, he likely could have, as the family was trying to hide in a crawl space. Once he tried entering the crawl space, the mother did what she had to do to protect her kids. Yeah it's amazing he survived 5 shots in face/neck, but the fact that he lived is largely irrelevant. He stopped what he was doing and fled, and was later apprehended. The mother was successful in defending her family and home, and that's what really matters here IMO.

I wonder if any of the media outlets will run a story about how something like an M4 carbine would have been ideal for home defense in this scenario? You know, them being all unbiased and everything...
