Announcement : Do not bump old threads

If you are looking at a for sale thread, take a moment to see when the first post was made. If it was not in the last 6 months please PM the OP. If you don't get a reply then that's your anser.

If you bump a thread that's a year or two old I will delete your post and close the thread.

If you bump multiple threads asking if it's for sale, or "I'll take it" I will either warn you, or just ban you depending on if I am having a good day, or a bad day.

If you have 1 post and your bumping old threads I'm more likely to just ban you.

Please use your brain and read the threads before you post in them.

thanks
josh

C'mon Boss, we gots to know.......

.....why are the old, moldy posts left up? Is it about high brow internet marketing, ad counts for prospective advertisers etc?
And....now that there's been a giant migration from NWF.... mebbe that would warrant divvying up the classifieds a smidge? (i.e. Sport rifles, black guns, pistols, boat anchors etc.)

Thanks for being here. :top:

+1 on seperate classifieds. I would do a similar format as the discussion boards. Semi auto rifles, bolt rifles, hand guns, shot guns, black powder and air together. Maybe even seperate the semi auto hand guns and revolvers. This is one of the best forums around growth is inevitable.

Hey baby steps!

I'd rather not see a bunch of threads from 2010!!!!!

Lol.

Honestly though, I don't have a prob setting up subcategories though. Stay tuned!

I'm new to the site and don't understand bump, or PM. If I want to inquire of someone's firearm I should do it in the box like this at the bottom of the posting?

Bump = replying to a thread, causing it to move to the top of the forum it resides.

Let's say you did a search for "Glock19" and found several threads from last year. They're not current threads and the only reason you're viewing them is because you searched for them. If you were to reply to one of them it would "bump" up to the top of the forum it lives in.

The etiquette around this is that it's very unlikely still available. Imagine finding a Seattle Times classifieds section from October of last year and calling on something...

PM = Private Message. If you click on my user name you'll see a little drop-down of options. One of them is "Send a private message to richardlpalmer". If you select that you'll go to a new page where you can send me a message privately -- sort of like an email. I'll then be able to read and reply to you privately, without either of us using a thread in one of the forums.

So with that "Glock19" search, if you were to find one from last October and you're really wondering if it's still available, send the person a PM rather than bump the ancient thread. ;)

no problem! Lets see if I can explain it.

If you click a post in the classifieds, look at when the original poster first put up the message.

For instance if you scroll up to the top of this post you will see I first posted this thread on:
01-13-2013, 10:47 AM

The point is, if you click a thread and the first post was for example:
06-24-2010, 9:43 PM

The thread is 3 years old. Please don't respond/bump the thread. PM (private message) the user and see if it's still available.

When the Obama gun crazy business was going on, we would have a bunch of new guys sign up, log in, click through 10 pages of classifieds and start bringing old threads to the top of the classifieds. Then everyone would think a AR-15 that was for sale in 2010 for $750 was still avail, and they would start a bidding war for a gun that was LONG LONG gone.. I had to delete a ton of old threads.

Does that help?
