Has this ever happened here? Does anyone know someone that owns the jigs and a press? I have a friend of a friend that has all of the equipment, but he's undependable at best. I'm tired of trying to get in touch with him, but I really want to do a Bulgarian 74 project. Thoughts? Interest?

I'm going to buy a kit regardless. Does anyone have access to a press? If we got a big enough group, we could split the cost of the jig between us. IIRC, the jig is only about $100. Not unreasonable if we split it between 4 or 5 people.

Pricey, but has a quality barrel installed. Parts Kits :: Kits With Barrels Installed - AK-Builder.com

Oooh.. Found a guy in Vancouver that rents a 20ton press. We may have a winner. ARMSLIST - For Sale: AK-47 Receiver Flat Bending Jig Rental

I messaged the guy with the press. He will rent you his press, and instruct you how to use it, for about $35. He does not provide assistance with anything else, so we'd have to find another press for the rivets. At $35 a pop, it might just be cheaper to have all of us chip in on a die for about $100, and find someone with a shop. Get your feelers out guys, one of us has to know someone..

I'll look around a bit, I can probably get ahold of a press or a location. Would be down to split some costs too.

SeattleGuns.NET

I no longer need my AK builder tools. Pretty much the main tools you will need to build AKs are included in this package. All tools are barely used.

AK Builder Barrel Press for 1 inch ram $95
AK Builder Riveting Tool with AK74 adapter $270
AK Builder Trigger Jig $65
7.62 go and no go guage $70
5.56 go and no go guage $70
Harbor Freight 12 ton press $100
Bench Drill press $100

Will sell all of these tools packaged for $500. Pickup in Seattle.

Im still in on this.
can put some $$ towards the tooling as long as we have a gentleman's agreement that it doesn't get sold unless everyone is bought out.

A friend of a friend has a press, jig, and has done this before. Just trying to pin him down... Would everyone be willing to chip in a few dollars for "instruction"? Give me an idea of who wants to go, and what you think a reasonable amount would be.

Ok, good news. I got in touch with the guy that has the press, jig, and has built several ak's. He lives in the Seattle metro (just north of town, IIRC), and he sounds interested in hosting this. To keep this fair and worth his time, I was also thinking something in the neighborhood of $25-50 per person for instruction and use of his equipment. I haven't said anything about money to him because I want to be clear with all of you before I approach him with firm numbers. Obviously, the more people that show up, the less the per-person amount would be. 6 guys paying $50 each would make this well worth a saturday afternoon for him. It would also keep him interested in future build parties. If only 2 people show up though...

So. If I planned this for late august/early september, would that be enough time for everyone to gather the kits and pieces? I will let him tell me how much he wants per person, but I personally wouldn't pay much more than $50. Is this an acceptable price for all of you? Who wants to do this? I need firm commitments.

You would need the kit, receiver, rivet set, and your compliance parts. This is the kit that I bought..

Bulgarian AK-74 Parts Set

So I need a receiver or receiver flat, barrel, rivet set, US made trigger group (tapco) and a few other US made parts. If you buy a kit with the barrel installed, it saves some trouble but costs more.

If this guy falls through (he can be a bit flaky), i'll just buy a complete receiver and barrel and build it myself from there. I wonder if my gunsmith can press a barrel into the trunion..?
