Another new guy in the south end

Hi guys, been lurking for a bit, and thought I'd join in the conversations a bit now that I have a couple of questions.
Newer gun owner working on the pistol collection. Growing up (now 41) parents and all my other relatives from SD have had guns and I guess it felt like it was the time for me to jump on the band wagon and get my own.
Now I know why you hardly find anyone with just one gun. It's damn addicting. I just choose the wrong time and wrong calibers (9mm and 22LR) both M&P's. It took me awhile to get the hang of things to obtain ammo, but I think I finally got figured it out. Took about 2 moths to find a box (yes one box) of 9mm and yes being a newb and hearing people say you can't get 22LR I paid $60 for a 525 brick (I know better now). Being new I'm going to the range often and going through about 200-300 rounds each time. Well guess that's my intro, now I"m off to the rest of the forums.

Thanks for the welcome.

Well it was at a WAC show and the guy was the cheapest there. I now know better, it was one of those lessons you learn being the new guy. The next lowest was $75. I hadn't seen any in the stores and had just bought my M&P 22. Next time I see the guy I'll just smile at him and say Yep you got me.

Welcome!

And FWIW, if you were doing this buying in the last few months, you weren't so much "taken" as much as being a victim of circumstances. Up until the last few weeks people were paying as much as $1/round for some 22LR. All due to a panic around potential gun control legislation. So don't think you could have done much about it...

Also, why would you consider those the wrong guns/caliber? Sounds to me like you picked two winners. The M&P line is very well respected and those calibers are 2 of the most widely available and used ones. They're also the least expensive! You sir, made excellent choices and don't let anyone tell you differently. The only reason I'd say you didn't make a good choice is, if for some reason, YOU don't like how they shoot or the caliber.

hey welcome aboard!

It's an expensive time to get into the sport.. but hang out for a couple years and you'll start to see a pattern with all the political posturing.

In the end, we all end up getting screwed, so your not alone.

Advice?

Stock up when it's cheap.
