Optics for a Remington 700 XCR Tac LR

Hey guys, I got a Remington 700 XCR Tactical Long Range in .308 as an early b-day present from the folks. They also offered to buy me a scope and mounting gear. So long story short, I'm looking at a couple of scopes, I linked them below. The other things that a few people recommended on another forum was getting a Badger Ordnance 20 MOA Base.

They Also recommended these rings Valdada IOR 30mm Low Rings I'm just wondering if it's worth it to spend that much on the base/rings. I know you can get pretty good ones for quite a bit less than those ones cost, so I'm just wondering if those are worth the extra $$ or if I would be fine to get ones that are a bit cheaper? I'm kinda new to this subject since this is the first rifle I'll setup with optics, so I would really appreciate any advice you guys may have.

What's your max range? why I ask is depending on your scope's elevation adjustment range and the distance you want to shoot, you may need the 20moa base.

I would go with as much magnification as your budget allows.

Iím trying to push for 800-900 yards give or take, I wonít be hunting with this rifle, just for plinking at long range. I was told the 6.5-20x with that base would be fine for targets at that range, they said if I go up to the 8.5-25x that I would be losing my field of view if I went with that scope.

The XCR LR is a 26" 1:12 Twist and at 800+ yards you'll need to shoot 175/178gr bullets and with that barrel it will be difficult to stabilize a long heavy bullet. Realistically, 600 yards would be pushing it.

As Target/bench use, field of view isnt't necessary unless you are tracking multiple targets at different ranges. I think you would be fine with the higher magnification.

I'm building a 6.5 Grendel shooting a 123gr bullet which has a higher BC than the 175gr 308 out to 800 yards from a 18" 1:8.5 Twist. I will be running a 6-24x50 Viper PST and would like to have more magnification. Sure, hitting a 10" plate at that range is doable but the more zoom the better.
