Well I've been 21 for about 5 months now, but since the ex fiance and I split up I was finally able to go get my CWP and picked up my Springfield XDm 40:). Got it at White Elephant for 589, which is the cheapest place I could find it in Spokane. My CWP isn't here yet so I had to do the 5 day wait or w/e so I won't be able to pick it up till the 30th, but boy I cannot wait to shoot this puppy. I went with the black and green, don't know why just dig the looks of it. ![]() This is the damage I did with the XDm at sharpshooters. Not to bad for only being the third time I've ever shot a semi-auto pistol. Most my pistol shooting has been with a ruger 44 super red hawk. |

Shoulda bought a glock. Just kidding, you'll love that pistol. Excellent guns. I don't own one yet (went the glock route) but an XD is on "the list" |

And better ballistics than a .45? Now you're really smoking crack. Not knocking the.40, it's a good round and a nice compromise between the size/capacity of a 9mm and the power of .45 but no way no how is it *more* powerful than a .45, or more accurate than a 9mm.

I shoot the 40 a hell of a lot better than I do a 9mm I can tell you that much. The 40 S&W and the 45 are neck and neck on their ballistics take a look at the charts. Unless of course the charts are wrong. But hey I can tell you what, if I ever have to use it in self defense, I'll go buy a 45 and shoot the fool once with each and we'll see if he can feel the difference. A 165 grain JHP bullet is shooting at 1150 FPS and has 485 ft lbs of energy out of the 40 S&W, out of the 45 that same bullet is traveling at 1060 Ft Per Second and has 412 Ft Lbs. What part of that is better than the 40? Who's on crack now?

If you are shooting bigger bullets than the 45 is able to push em better, but I don't shoot heavy bullets at targets, seems like kind of a waste doesn't it? I will be shooting 180 grains for self defense, but I don't even have my gun yet lol. I wish I had a picture of my target with the 40, the one I posted was with the 9mm. It's all about personal preference, just like with bikes haha.

Johnny, only reason I didn't buy a glock is because it only has the trigger safety. I've heard of guys losing toes from it getting snagged.. I like having the grip safety, and the XD fits my hand like a glove, I've got short hands so the glock grip just didn't feel right. I'm sure someday I'll own a glock 21 10mm, I love Kolats. Then I'd really have the upper hand on 45's lol

pull the trigger the gun goes boom, imagine that, haha. I have two glocks, and carry one in a .45, but understand some peoples need for extra safetys, personal preference.

![]() I certainly wouldn't consider myself a ballistics expert by any means, but this is definitely the first time I've ever heard of a .40 being more powerful than a .45? If I was gonna shoot a 165 grain .45 it would be a +P at 1250 fps and 573 ft/lbs. Kinda blows that .40 out of the water, eh? What's more telling is the 50 yard muzzle energy. The .40 rounds drop off significantly vs their muzzle energy, while the heavier .45 rounds retain a lot more energy. FWIW I only use 230 grain rounds in FMJ or JHP. That said, I argue enough about stupid shit on PNW, I'm not gonna do it here about calibers. If the .40 works better for *you* that's all that really matters. Personally I wouldn't wanna get shot with either.

| Sharpshooter Joined: Jan 2009 From: Renton, WA Posts: 519 | I've had a Glock for almost 20 years and never felt it was "unsafe" or needed any extra safeties. Keep your finger off the trigger and will not go bang. That said, I do like the grip safety on the XDs, it's not even noticeable to the shooter, and does add a small degree of safety. The big thing for me is the ergonomics. The XDs just fit my hand better, and I find the 1911 grip angle to point more naturally for me.
