Imagine law and order is either about to break down or is already breaking down. Society torn apart. The goal is to survive and defend yourself. Which pistol is easy to use and have a widely/readily available supply of ammo available?

What is the 9mm pistol that defines all 9mm pistols? I own several pistols of all calibers. My favorite caliber for all around versatility is the 9mm. I love my 1911 but for CC and home defense its 9mm for me. I've been thinking really hard about getting a Glock 17/19 or Beretta M9/92FS because of how common parts are. I've shot the M9 many time in the military and the glock a couple of times.... both are great. What would you get?

It's my next gun buy.

Glock 19

I hate glocks but I respect them. The one gun that fills most rolls is the G19. Large enough magazine, and can use G17 or G18 mags if you need more than 15 rounds. Small enough to carry concealed but big enough to fight with. Can take a light, can be suppressed and any monkey with a bit of time can detail strip it and keep it running. Parts are cheap. Mags are cheap. tons of holsters for various kinds of carry. It's light weight and doesn't feel like you're carrying a brick on your hip.

Some people shoot glocks better than others but everyone can achieve a reasonable standard with the Glock. Controls are simple. 3.5# connector improves the trigger but it's not necessary.

If I'm at the range, I prefer my sigs or my browning but if I can only have one gun for work in a shitty environment with little or no support....G19 all the way.

I'm partial to the Springfield XDm 9mms these days, but if I had to name the one ubiquitous 9mm standard, it would have to be the G17/19. I still have my Gen2 G19 that's 20 years old and still runs great. I've had plenty of friends offer to buy it, but my answer is always the same... it's not for sale.

If you like your 1911, why not just get a 1911 in 9mm?

If the world ends i would like to have easy access to associated gun parts and mags.... there's millions of glocks and m9s around.

If you're going by that standard, I'm going to bet there's more 1911s around than either of those. 100 years of production will do that for you.

The knowhow to get all those pieces working together? Little tougher.
